Hey there.

I've got a virus. Every time I use Chrome, my search engine gets hijacked from Google.com to either Bing or DuckDuckGo.

I tried following the guide over at Malwarebytes, but I'm stuck. I managed to get through step two, but nothing else. There’s nothing to uninstall for the first step, and I can't even finish step three because my trial version expired.

What am I supposed to do to kill this annoying thing? Or whatever it is. It's driving me crazy. Help me out!

You don't need the premium version of Malwarebytes; the free one works just fine. Just make sure you uncheck the box that says "enable free trial of mbam premium" during installation. You can also try this within Chrome: https://support.google.com/chrome/answer/3296214?hl=en
You can also activate a free license for Hitman (it lasts for 30 days).

Sure, there’s plenty of free stuff out there, but the issue is my 30-day trial already expired because I had other programs running in the background.

EDIT: Alright, I managed to get it off my system using this link to Google's site! But I'm positive the virus is still lurking on my computer somewhere. How do I wipe it out for good?

You can also just head over to Control Panel and select Internet Options. That's where you can tweak your search engines, mess with your homepage, tighten up your security settings, and all that good stuff...

Problem solved! Thanks everyone for the help. Unknown helped me out by running a full scan with Norton, and that did the trick. As far as I'm concerned, this thread can be closed. 😁
