Any recommendations for a good repair shop?

Hi there,

My PC is starting to die on me, and I could really use some advice.

Basically, I was just browsing the web when little pixelated squares started popping up on my screen. Then, the graphics went completely haywire. After a restart, it won't even boot properly anymore—Windows starts to load, but then the display glitches out and the system triggers an automatic shutdown to prevent further damage.

To make a long story short, this machine has been a loyal workhorse for years, so I haven't had to visit a repair shop in ages. Does anyone have recommendations on where I should take it?

If I actually knew where you were based, this would be much easier to figure out 😁 I could point you toward an incredible service, but if you’re living out in Venice, it probably isn't worth the trek all the way to Washington, D.C. 🕺

Based on what you've described, there could be a few different things going on here...

The graphics card might just be overheating—maybe some dust buildup inside the case?
Or, the card itself might have finally kicked the bucket, which means you're looking at buying a new one.
It could also just be a glitchy driver causing all the trouble.

If you aren't really comfortable digging into the hardware yourself, honestly, it's probably best to just drop it off at a repair shop and let the pros take a look.

It’s not overheating (I checked right before the system crashed).
It isn't dust either—I stay on top of cleaning it.

Like you mentioned, the GPU might just be dying on me.

I did some Googling for repair shops, but since there are so many options around Washington, D.C., I figured I'd ask for a recommendation first. I've heard plenty of horror stories about bad service lately.

I don't mind driving a bit further if it means getting the job done right.

I'll probably drop by one of those places mentioned above.
