Here’s the Wikipedia rundown on cyberpunk 🤷
From what I can tell, they define cyberpunk mostly as fiction, but Alexei Shulgin—the guy behind the 386 DX crew—actually brought it to life through virtual reality. The dude is basically one of the pioneers of net art, with a ton of massive projects under his belt, including how he pioneered cybersex by inventing physical interfaces specifically for that 😁. I’ve been following this since the jump, so back in the day, I actually found the whole story about his cyberpunk band pretty fascinating. The group members only ever met online, and they recorded everything without using actual instruments—just pure computer-generated sounds and even synthesized vocals. Okay, nothing groundbreaking now, but they used to pull off these online concerts where everyone was scattered across the globe, yet video walls would stitch them together into one single image. Honestly, I think their best track was that cover of Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit," and if I remember right, you can still find a legal download somewhere on the web 🙏
He did a bunch of lectures and shows at the local club way back when.
