I’ve been having such a hard time over the last few days. My period has always been pretty irregular, but honestly, I wasn't too worried about it until about three months ago. That was when I had sex, and since then, I’ve only had my period once—back on November 6th—and nothing since. I went to see my OBGYN, and five days ago, I took a pregnancy test using urine rather than blood. It came back negative, and I had already used home tests before that which were also negative. But then, two days ago, I noticed a tiny bit of spotting on my underwear and thought my period was finally coming, so I started taking the Norethindrone my doctor prescribed. Except, I didn't actually start my period; now I'm just left wondering where that blood came from! So, here is my question: is it actually possible for me to be pregnant even though those two tests were negative, especially since we always used condoms and they never broke? And is there any chance this could be an ectopic pregnancy if the tests are showing negative?

Brenda Green16 said:Look, I’ve been dealing with some major stress over the last few days. We had sex back then, and I ended up getting my period just once after that, on November 6th, but since then? Nothing. Zilch. I went to see my OB-GYN, and five days ago, I took a urine pregnancy test—not a blood test—and it came back negative. I even did an at-home test before that, and that was negative too. But then, two days ago, I noticed a tiny bit of spotting in my underwear. I thought, "Okay, here comes my period," so I started taking the pills my doctor prescribed. But my period still hasn't arrived, and now I'm totally lost as to what that spotting actually was. So, here's my question: Is it even possible to be pregnant despite those two negative tests? We used condoms every single time, and they never broke or anything. Also, could this possibly be an ectopic pregnancy, given that the tests were negative?

Honestly, you can never be 100% sure with condoms. As for an ectopic pregnancy, I doubt it—you would be in absolute agony if that were the case. Your best bet is to just head back to the gynecologist for another exam and get some real answers.

I'm with you on this.
Go back for another checkup—just tell your OBGYN exactly what you told us here.
They'll probably give you a much closer look to figure out what's actually going on.

I went to see my doctor today, and it was pretty much the same story. She assured me that the test result is 100% accurate and that I’m definitely not pregnant. To get things moving, she prescribed some Norethindrone to trigger my period, and then once that settles down, I'll switch over to birth control pills to keep everything stable

I headed over to my doctor's office today, and honestly, nothing has changed. She assured me that the test results are 100% accurate and that I am definitely not pregnant! To get things moving, she prescribed some Norethindrone to trigger my period, and then we’ll work on getting everything stabilized once I start on birth control pills later on.

Did she actually give you a physical exam first? And more importantly, how are you holding up?

It’s totally possible to see some spotting right around ovulation. If that’s what happened, you might see your period hit in about two weeks, though it could show up sooner. Your hormones seem to be a bit of a mess right now. Have you actually gone in to get some bloodwork done to check your levels?

She didn't actually perform a physical exam on me; she just insisted that the test was absolutely foolproof. Since that guarantee was the whole reason I showed up in the first place, she figured there was no point in doing a full physical assessment anyway!
