ER visit: what to expect?

What’s the damage for an ER visit if I don't have health insurance??
I need to see a doctor, but since I'm uninsured, should I just head to the ER or try my primary care physician?? How much is one exam and a prescription gonna run me?

look, I’m pretty sure getting an eye specialist appointment over in $33 won't end up costing you more than some random ER visit... though, obviously, you'll just get handed a prescription and have to shell out the cash at the CVS yourself.
