I find myself returning to the words of the philosopher and alchemist unknown: "Eating is a physical act, drinking is a soulful one, and smoking a pipe is a spiritual endeavor. One should always begin with food and conclude with the smoke of a pipe."

I’ve always been against cigarettes—never touched them—but I do light a pipe from time to time.
They say a man with a pipe is never truly alone. There isn't much chatter involved; instead, there is peace, silence, and tradition. To properly pack, light, and draw from a pipe isn't just a habit; it’s a ritual. A pipe offers more than a fleeting distraction; it provides a perspective on existence.
A smoker creates a certain space around themselves. It is an experience meant for those who are self-aware.

Do you ever feel as though the world shifts through the magic of pipe smoke?

I could probably write a whole essay on this, but for now, just check the link www.pusilulu.com

Correction, the link is actually www.pusilulu.tk :-)
I have combed through it from top to bottom more times than I care to admit.

Yeah, totally. Didn't even realize the link was broken. A close friend of mine—someone I lost touch with years ago over some nonsense—actually pointed out the link to me back in the day. We were both obsessed with old-school stuff, antiques, and all that junk... it just fit. I never really looked at it as some kind of ritualistic smoke break or whatever, but more like a specific way to indulge. It’s the same thing with booze, honestly. Why bother with some cheap, bottom-shelf swill from a corner store? You either go for a top-tier craft beer, a decent vintage, or a high-end bourbon that actually tastes like something. I'm not interested in just drinking to get drunk. Same goes for tobacco. If you want to actually enjoy it, it has to be the good stuff. High-quality pipes and fine cigars have a scent that's just... different.

Pipe smoking is more than just a habit for me; it’s a lifestyle. I don't indulge often—only during those rare, quiet moments. I’d love to do it more frequently, but this frantic pace of life makes it difficult. You can only truly enjoy a pipe when you are fully present and self-aware. In my own little bouts of "philosophy," I try to view the world through a lens of mild hedonism, peace, relaxation, and the beauty of ritual and tradition.

Lula... hmm. I guess back home we had this one woman they used to call Lula-lady, mostly because she’d show off her obsession with pipes right in front of the entire local pub. With a hundred people cheering her on, she looked like she was having some kind of transcendental experience or something.

A good pipe really is a significant thing. A truly great pipe, especially.

The unknown knows how to smell a thing coming, though most of the time, it just smells like trouble to me.
You’re never truly alone when you've got a cigarette in hand. 😁

As George Bernard Shaw once put it, "He who remains silent when he is wrong is a wise man. But he who remains silent even when he is right—well, he is either married or a pipe smoker."

And that's about all I have to say regarding the spiritual essence of smoking a pipe... 😬

I don't smoke, but the smell of a good pipe or some high-end cigars is actually pretty killer. Same goes for weed.

I suppose you could spend an eternity philosophizing about just about anything, even something as simple as smoking a pipe.

It makes me wonder... why do some birds manage to live for what feels like two hundred years? Maybe it’s because they "let go" so frequently—just releasing everything whenever nature calls. If we actually followed their lead and didn't hold onto all that tension, I guess we might actually see our own lifespans stretch out a bit longer too.

It’s the same deal with everything in life. I once knew this hardcore smoker—not a pipe guy, just straight cigarettes—who told me, "Look, I actually only need three a day: one in the morning, one after lunch, and one after sex" 😁. Anything else? Just a smelly, toxic habit.

Ever since my crew and I got back from our trip to Tunis, we've been sticking strictly to water pipes. 😁

Are there any pipe smokers on this forum who might be interested in swapping some stories and experiences?

How on earth did you carry that on a plane... and where do you even find the "tobacco" these days?

Thanks... though I don't really need it since I’m not exactly a fan of the tobacco industry.
I once saw people trying to pull out full-on hookahs on an airplane, which honestly felt just as chaotic as when I try to bring my musical instruments on a flight!

If there are any serious pipe smokers out there looking for a community, a new forum has been launched dedicated exclusively to the craft http://dim-lule.forumotion.com

the honest truth

tried it, dealt with it, moved on

I smoke a pipe
really rarely, but it’s sort of my own little ritual. nothing else quite compares, I guess.
