I'm looking for software to encrypt data on a USB drive.

Anyone have any recommendations?

😕

Which specific stick are you talking about?
Have you tried using Google?

I gave Folder Lock a shot, and I guess it actually does what it says on the tin.

Maybe you could explain how exactly that works, just so everyone else can get up to speed?

I managed to sort things out using Folder Lock.
Still, I doubt it’s a permanent fix since the software is just a trial version.
I'll dig around on Google for something more substantial.

So, I picked this up on an ADATA 1 GB USB drive. It comes with two partitions, and you can basically split them however you want during the initial format. You could go with one big unprotected partition or make everything encrypted—whatever floats your boat. The first part gets locked down tight; even using a standard disk formatting tool won't let me touch it. I can format or wipe the second partition all day, but that first one stays untouchable. Without the password, you aren't seeing a single thing. In fact, the first partition stays completely hidden; my PC doesn't even acknowledge it exists, it just sees the second one. If that second part is empty, the computer just tells me the USB is blank. On my drive, the second partition is actually a bit larger than a CD. The whole setup cost me about $27, picked it up in
. I’ve been messing around with encryption for a long time, and this solution actually works for me. If anyone wants more options, there’s a free program from Axon Data out there. It's solid. http://www.axondata.se/

Nothing crazy, and definitely not expensive.👍

How does one secure data on a thumb drive so it remains accessible on any computer without needing specific encryption software pre-installed?
