This whole thing gets pretty complicated if you haven't been following along from the very beginning. I guess it's just a bit much for someone coming in late.

Since I'm guessing who made that remark about Americans being able to charge in without any fear...

I can confirm that wearing a helmet during a high-quality slip doesn't offer much protection; you still take quite a jarring impact.
You might feel more secure, but I suppose the same applies to your opponent. They’ll likely feel just as confident, which means they might be willing to take more risks.
It’s arguably harder to take someone down when they're wearing a helmet. I guess there's just less spatial awareness or something. Maybe.
Pankration lacks grit, though I suppose it does come with a million other restrictions... particularly when it comes to striking.

I honestly can't stand these kinds of arguments where neither side is willing to admit they’re both somewhat right. I guess I've just heard far too much of this during _ing __un.

They really are. 👎 It seems like there might have been a typo or an incomplete thought in your message. I am not quite sure what you intended to convey. Perhaps you could clarify?

Yeah, I get where you're coming from.
From what I've seen, you guys in Wing Tsun have tons of these little arguments.

From what I've seen, people in the Wing Tsun community really do spend way too much time bickering over the small stuff.

The whole reason we use the term _ing __un is simply because there are so many different spellings floating around:
Wing Tsun, Ving Tsun, and all that other nonsense...

Honestly, all that arguing is pointless; everyone knows Uimg Dsum is the gold standard.
It was taught by Jgwie Mnung and includes those specialized anti-aircraft techniques.

It’s all way too complicated if you haven't been following from day one.

Since I’m assuming that comment about Americans being able to rush in without fear was aimed at me...

I can tell you firsthand—a helmet in high-level grappling doesn't offer much protection once you take a hard hit.
Sure, it gives you a sense of security, but it does the same for your opponent—meaning they’ll take more risks against you.
Plus, it's harder to time a takedown on someone wearing a helmet because your spatial awareness gets totally thrown off.
Pankration doesn't use helmets, but it has a million other rules—mostly regarding striking.

Why would you think that was directed at you? I was speaking generally—I wasn't targeting you personally, nor am I downplaying your success in amateur UFC, quite the opposite actually.
In Pankration, you aren't allowed to strike the head with your hands, but you can land knee strikes to the body which score differently than the version you compete in... When you tally up all the strikes and subtract the differences, it all boils down to similar constraints.

In Pancrase, you aren't allowed to strike the head with your hand, but you can hit the body with a knee and get points for a low kick—it’s a different version than the one you compete in... When you add up all the strikes and subtract the ones that aren't allowed, it all comes down to similar ratios of limitations...

It's for the first tournament, maybe I misunderstood... My bad.
Well, all these are good ways for young fighters to develop, experience is what matters.
The pro level comes with time, especially if someone is young and has the luxury of time.

Limitations are a good thing, they exist for protection, that's just my take.
The only thing I absolutely hate is ground fighting 😍

And I'll try Pancrase, you have to try everything. If there's Shootfighting, then I'll try that too.

honestly, all this bickering is pretty pointless. Everyone already knows that Uimg Dsum is the premier system.
It was taught by Jgwie Mnung, and it actually incorporates anti-aircraft techniques.

I managed to record that session featuring Smith and the Ban, and I’ve uploaded it to the usual spot. If you aren't sure where to find it, just shoot me a DM.

In my view, Smith definitely had the stronger arguments, though the debate itself felt a bit unfinished. As for the Ban🙄 well, we were all being a little slippery...

It’s actually pretty funny to see that nobody is immune to this kind of bickering or all the petty politics within specific styles. 🙂

Yeah, you’d think so, especially since everyone is on the same side with the same goals, but clearly, some people just love being difficult. 😬 It’s a shame it all went down so fast...

Robin Palmer3, welcome to the argument club. 😉
