Hey everyone,
I was wondering if anyone could shed some light on what the actual consequences are for a baby if the mother is drinking consistently throughout her pregnancy.
Thanks in advance for any expert insight you can provide.

What kind of damage are we talking about for the baby if the mother is drinking constantly during pregnancy?

Look, I’m no doctor, let's get that out of the way right now.😁
But from what I picked up back in high school? You end up with a kid with tiny ears, a tiny nose, and a brain that just isn't firing on all cylinders. Basically, if you dose the alcohol just right, you can pretty much engineer a kid with whatever level of stupidity you're aiming for.

If a mother drinks during pregnancy, there's a high chance the baby develops Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS). It mostly shows up as severe intellectual disabilities, plus the kid ends up with very distinct physical features. I guess the more the mother drinks, the worse the cognitive impairment gets, but timing is everything too. Just one bout of heavy drinking during that critical first trimester can trigger FAS. Honestly, alcohol is way more destructive to a fetus than cigarettes, heroin, or even LSD.
