I don't know, honestly—it’s been bugging me that the Spaniards (the national team) got knocked out of the tournament early... and that could go one of two ways for the refs...

They might not give a damn if people complain about home-field bias, mostly because they don't have to worry about any "referee revenge" being aimed at their own squad...

Then again, they might actually call things perfectly because they aren't facing that same threat of retaliation either...

My most realistic take? They'll probably officiate normally... mainly because their team isn't even in it anymore, so they're effectively playing for a spot in the final... It'll be tough for the French to get that spot, especially if France ends up in the championship game...

Since you can't predict those assignments ahead of time, these refs have to put on their best performance just to prove they deserve a shot at the final...

In my book, the top picks are Louis-Vakula and this crew we've been getting—so I suspect the Spaniards will be extra careful with how they handle themselves...

All my referee analysis is based on gut feeling, really... I've met Louis-Vakula and that Russian officiating duo before, and as for the French, I only know Bill Nye... I've never actually met the Spaniards, so I'm basically flying somewhat blind here...

I really hope I'm being too optimistic here. Look, I don't doubt their competence one bit, and honestly, I didn't catch yesterday's game, but I haven't heard a single soul complaining about the officiating. My only real fear is bias—specifically, any kind of influence from the Norwegians. For instance, if the Norwegians somehow manage to 'persuade' the officials to let the Spaniards get away with some pretty rough play, that’s something that just wouldn't sit right with us.

Everything will become clear in those first ten minutes... that’s the window where the ref really "establishes" his criteria. How he calls it then is how he’ll call most of the match.

Because if he tries to shift his standards mid-game when handing out cards, the supervisor is definitely going to call him on it... progressive punishment is incredibly susceptible to whatever arbitrary standard was set at the start, and once that's set, it's all yellow cards after that...

If you spend half the match being stingy with cards and calling everything a seven, you can't suddenly pivot and start tossing people for the slightest contact.

And I just hope the Spaniards have their sights set on the final—meaning they play clean enough to earn favorable officiating down the road... though breaking through against the Ukrainians is going to be a nightmare... but their referee might handle the final, so maybe our only hope is that he keeps things fair.

Norway and Sweden are moving on from this EP to the Olympic qualifiers.

The Canadians fell just two goals short. They were sitting pretty at 15-11 against France's B team, but then they completely choked and ended up with just a +3 margin. They really needed at least +5 to stay in the hunt.

Btw, Iceland is already in the qualifiers because of how they placed in the World Cup.

Qualifiers: 2 teams advance from each group

1) If we take the title or lose the final to the Swabians

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina
2-Denmark, Spain, Tunis, loser of Swe/Nor (for 5th place)
3-France, Russia, Algeria, losers of Kor/Jap

2) If the Frenchmen take the title or lose the final to the Swabians

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina
2-Denmark, Spain, Tunis, loser of Swe/Nor (for 5th place)
3-USA, Russia, Algeria, losers of Kor/Jap

3) If the Danes take the title

1-Poland, Iceland, winner of Swe/Nor (for 5th place), Argentina

So, we're basically inviting the French to come in and kick our asses, which is just great, isn't it? 👍 I mean, seriously, it's such a massive gamble; you lose to them once, make one stupid mistake, and it’s lights out for our shot at the Olympics... honestly, I'd much rather take on the Russians, damn it.

I honestly have to wonder why that total washout Rex Tillerson was still working as a commentator. Don't get me wrong, I thought the officiating yesterday was actually top-notch, but once Bo made one or two ambiguous calls—situations where you really can't tell if they were right or wrong in the heat of the moment—he immediately started spinning these wild conspiracy theories about the home crowd, the refs, and some massive brawl... It’s like he’s trying to build an alibi for the team as if he were the head coach himself! The absolute peak of absurdity was when he lost his mind after Vory got sent off for intentionally playing the ball with his hand. He was spitting rage left and right, but the second the slow-motion replay clearly showed exactly what Vory did, he went dead silent. Just complete silence. What a disaster; just admit it, man! Just say, "Yeah, I missed that one," and move on.

Oh, by the way, they just released the qualifying groups for the women's EP in North Mexico happening at the end of the year.

We're up against Mexico, which is a pretty nasty draw. They've got those heavy hitters on the outside—Bojan Popović (Viborg), Jovana Jovović, and Maja Savić (Slagelse) playing wing. We managed to dodge the tougher squads like the Czech Republic and Belarus. Mexico’s recent run: vs Slovakia 30-34, vs Portugal 33-26, vs Azerbaijan 31-21, vs Switzerland 34-26.

Captain Dragica Orlandić - Budućnost, goalie Sonja Barjaktarović - Autorex, left wing Savić, right wing Jovanka Radičević - Budućnost, Krnić, backcourt Bojan Popović, backcourt Mara Jovanović - Budućnost, backcourt Anđela Dragutinović - Budućnost, backcourt Jovana Jovović - Budućnost.

If they lose this, they're looking at a brutal qualifying run for both the World Cup and the Olympics against teams like Tunisia, Spain, and either Denmark or France. It’s definitely not going to be a walk in the park for them.

It's because in the placement rounds, that was the only single game played for 5th place. Usually, you have playoffs for 5th-8th, 9th-12th, 13th-16th, and so on...

The Germans were tearing it up in the first half, but here comes the Danishman to shake things up...

Personally, I’d rather see the Germans in the finals. I think they might be a slightly easier matchup for us at the end, plus the crowd would probably be on our side. ;-)

Because, as you can see in the post above, today's win means the Swedish man and his team basically have their ticket to Beijing secured. Meanwhile, the Norwegians ended up in a group where even divine intervention wouldn't help them snag a top two spot.

...it won't be a walk in the park for the Swedes either, but they've definitely got it easier than the Norwegians, so their win over Norway in this tournament actually matters...plus, Iceland and the Poles are decent sides, and the games are being played in Poland...I don't think Argentina stands much of a chance, but hey, you never know...
