Hey there,
I'm looking to set up a home gym. I've got about 300 square feet to work with, so I'd love to get your take on what to grab for cardio (maybe a treadmill, an elliptical, or a stationary bike?) and what kind of weight equipment is worth it. Are there any solid "all-in-one" machines that pack a bunch of different functions together? Honestly, I'll take any advice you guys have...

Also, what should I do for flooring? Like, what kind of material works best?

So, a buddy of mine just finished setting up his home gym—it’s about the same size as yours. He grabbed some stuff through Gold's Gym, and then hunted down some decent used gear on Craigslist... For cardio, he went big with a high-end elliptical (not one of those cheap junk ones you see on late-night TV, obviously) and a solid treadmill. He also picked up a weight bench, a 15-piece dumbbell set, and even mounted some Swedish wall bars and a heavy bag in the corner. Oh, and of course, he’s got his electric guitar and a guitar case tucked away in there too. Honestly? The whole setup looks sick. 🙂

I've got about 325 square feet to work with—not huge, but enough—so I'm wondering what you guys think about cardio setups (treadmills, ellipticals, stationary bikes, etc.) versus weight equipment. Are there any solid "all-in-one" machines that combine multiple functions without taking up the whole room? Any advice at all would be appreciated...

Also, what kind of flooring should I go with? What material works best?

For cardio, I’d suggest looking at Peloton. We have a rower and an elliptical, and they're great. For weights, stick with Peloton too—they make those multi-function stations that pack everything into a single footprint. It saves a ton of space. We’ve been more than happy with our setup, though it really just comes down to your budget... there are cheaper options out there if you need them.

My advice? Skip the all-in-one machines. Just grab some barbells, plates, and a bench. Stick to the basics like squats and bench presses.
