It's such a shame you only stuck to Summerteeth, even if that record is a total masterpiece of their catalog.
That said, pigeonholing Wilco as just "Americana" or "alt-country" isn't quite right.
If you dug Summerteeth, you probably caught those traces of The Byrds (that folk/country rock vibe), those catchy melodies and harmonies reminiscent of The Beach Boys, and even touches of The Beatles' white album—all layered with subtle electronics and jangly guitars backed by vintage keys.

Man, I am genuinely bummed I missed that concert, especially since they are in such an incredible era right now; their upcoming albums are legendary. Take Yankee Hotel Foxtrot (which I read described perfectly as sounding like an acoustic version of Sonic Youth), or Sky Blue Sky (where Jeff Tweedy took guitar cues from Richard Lloyd, leading to those wonderful jams inspired by Television and Marquee Moon—making tracks like Impossible Germany, Sky Blue Sky, and side with The Seeds absolute standouts from the early days); they are just the best.

Basically, with the help of the late Bennet, Tweedy helped Wilco evolve far beyond their roots in Uncle Tupelo, proving they can effortlessly drift through any genre—their second album, the double disc Being There, is the perfect example.

I'll say it again: it's a real pity you couldn't experience all of that, because I truly believe Wilco is one of the finest bands to emerge at the turn of the century.

You're right about that. To me, Summerteeth always felt almost like a compilation of several different bands, which was part of the appeal... but seeing them live, everything just sounded identical, like some Tom Petty 🤷
