Can someone tell me how that movie ended? I passed out halfway through... just wasn't engaging enough.👎

Wait, they actually made a movie about a banana?! Oh man, seriously? I was just thinking about heading out to catch that in theaters.

Not sure if it’s just me, but that was a total snooze fest... pacing was way too slow. Went to the theater alone, but I didn't even manage to nod off once....

Anyone actually stick it out until the credits rolled?

I thought the movie was decent enough.
It essentially serves as a snapshot of what life looks like in an average developing nation.
And Forest James McAvoy? He absolutely nailed it—he really brought Amin to life. 👍

I actually drifted off too. I couldn't wrap my head around the whole point of it or why they even made it, so I just checked out, but then I heard a rumor that the ending is absolutely insane and that I probably shouldn't have even bothered watching it.😱
Now, obviously, I'm losing my mind because I just HAVE to finish it.🙄 😁

The best part—or the absolute worst, depending on how you look at it—is that they changed the ending. In reality, the whole story had a much grimmer conclusion. But hey, that’s just Hollywood commercialism for you...

Alright, I’m going to lay out how this all wraps up right now, so if you haven't seen it yet... maybe don't read this part.

So, basically, you find out that Garrigan has been drugging Kay, and he tries to kill him in this really gruesome way. They actually drive two hooks through his chest area and hoist him up so he's just hanging there. I mean, I might have to try that tactic during my next metaphysics exam when the professor decides to crush me. But, anyway, once everyone leaves the room, the doctor manages to save him using some kind of medicinal drinks. Meanwhile, there's this whole subplot where a group hijacks a plane and the hostages end up at an airport in Uganda, and then they decide to just send all the non-locals back home. Garrigan sneaks onto that plane and escapes from Uganda for good. It's a great movie.

I thought the movie was freaking amazing 😍

so, I don't know if you guys saw the part where Garrigan slips the poison into Amin's headache pills... basically, Garrigan wanted to make a run for it, but since a massive plane with over 200 hostages just landed in Africa and needed "taking care of," Amin dragged Nicholas along with him.
Well, Amin's "bodyguard" realized those pills were sketchy and took them... then at the airport (while Nicholas was busy dealing with the hostages), he gave them to some young soldier to swallow. Nicholas saw this and couldn't let the kid get poisoned, so he rushed over and forced the kid to throw up. That’s how Nicholas got caught; they beat him to death, and Amin told him he knew about him and Kay (btw, I'm not sure if you saw that part, but Kay literally gets torn apart—like, her arms, legs, and head are ripped from her body, such a horrific scene when we see her!) and called it the "ultimate betrayal." And what do they do to traitors in his village? They hang them by their skin, and they keep going until all the "evil" is squeezed out (apparently "it can take three days for all the evil to come out"). They did the same to Nicholas—they pierced his skin on his chest and hung him up. It's a brutal scene 😢 but that good doctor (Amin's former personal physician) managed to free Nicholas while Amin was busy playing the "good president" for the hostages and giving statements, while his bodyguards were off playing cards and drinking (since they figured Nicholas "wasn't going anywhere"). The doctor patched him up, gave him a suit and everything... and almost all the hostages (except maybe the Muslims, I think) were released and headed for a flight to Paris. So Nicholas "blends in" with the hostages and boards the plane. The movie wraps up with the bodyguards killing the doctor (his last words being "my wife...") and telling Amin that the guy escaped; the plane takes off, and Amin and his crew watch it go. Then at the end, it says the plane landed in Paris... and that all the hostages were freed EXCEPT FOR ONE.
And that Amin killed 300,000 people, that there were celebrations in the streets of Africa when he was overthrown, and that he died in exile in 2003, though nobody knows if he actually died the way he saw in his dream. While that text scrolls, we see actual movie footage of Amin...

I honestly can't believe people are trashing this movie... personally, I thought it was great. I've always had a soft spot for political thrillers, but the acting here is top-tier and the plot is genuinely gripping enough to deserve all the praise... I was particularly drawn to Dr. Nicholas's character.
I’m really hoping Forest Whitaker picks up an Oscar because he truly earned it. He played that role (disturbing and twisted) perfectly.

The movie is absolutely stunning, and James McAvoy is just flawless in it... I’ve heard rumors that there was a scene where he was naked and they actually zoomed in on his... well, his anatomy... which is a shame they edited out. I honestly think a much larger audience would have turned up to see it if they hadn't. Forest Whitaker is nothing short of phenomenal playing Idi Amin; apparently, he even learned Swahili and mastered the various ways to use "uh" in conversation. He really leaned into the role of Idi and basically became him (you can truly see the resemblance, both in how he carries himself and how he looks), so I really feel like he deserves an Oscar!

It seems everyone got the details wrong—or rather, they let several inaccuracies slip in.

The actual version is that Palestinians hijacked the plane and landed it in Uganda (since there’s a scene where Idi Amin calls them good friends), then Amin decided to release all the non-Israelis because the Israelis had conceded to some unmentioned demands.
In the end, it says that the following day, the Israelis launched an attack and freed everyone except for one of their hostages.

Does anyone actually know how this played out in real life??

That doctor—did he really manage to pull a living head out of Uganda???

I mean, there isn’t even a mention of the doctor in the end credits, just that little text epilogue at the very end.

Anyway, such an incredible movie. I can't even remember all the tiny details anymore, but I know for a fact it nailed the emotional core, and honestly, that's the only thing that actually matters.
