How much sleep does someone actually need if they're pulling 10-hour shifts, dealing with a high-stress job, and hitting the gym 2-3 times a week?

The issue is my schedule is all over the place—anywhere from 4 to 10 hours a night.
I guess if you look at the weekly total, the numbers seem fine, but how do I actually get better quality rest?

Any tips for better sleep quality?

Any tips for actually getting some decent sleep??

I mean, you need the basics right? A solid, comfy mattress, a room that isn't a total mess, keeping the temperature just right so you don't wake up sweating... basically just being able to actually relax...

But honestly, life doesn't really work out in perfect eight-hour chunks like they say it should. You spend eight hours grinding at work, maybe eight hours doing stuff or hanging out, and then you're left with eight hours to sleep. But somehow, those last eight never seem to show up on the clock.😬 hehe

Irregular sleep patterns

I’m struggling with a pretty erratic sleep schedule... anywhere from 4 to 10 hours... which, I guess, averages out to a decent amount by the end of the week...

Any tips on how to actually fall asleep faster?

I’m looking for an answer to this too 😁

I'm getting maybe 1 to 5 hours of sleep... though it's almost never all at once, since I wake up 2 or 3 times during those 5 hours 🙂...

A decent, comfy bed, a room set up right, the perfect temperature, being relaxed... basically all the basics.

But there's no such thing as a perfect balance—you work 8 hours, you have 8 hours for whatever else, and then you're supposed to sleep for 8.😬 hehe

What should you be doing before hitting the sack... and what should you definitely avoid...

Avoid grabbing any heavy meals, and maybe skip the coffee for tonight. Try running a hot bath instead... just soak in there for a bit and try to decompress. Don't get stuck in that loop of thinking about everything you have to tackle tomorrow or all those tasks waiting for you—it’s a trap. Just put on a movie; honestly, most of them are basically white noise that knocks people right out. Or grab a book. Personally, I usually just put on some low-key music in the background and drift off like that.

No coffee, no TV 🤔

Just waiting on a book to drop 🙂

And stopping my mind from racing... 😁 I can't manage that if my life depended on it 🙂

Look, don't just sit there waiting on that one book—go grab something else instead. Honestly, I’ve been reading right before bed my entire life, and it works wonders; I’m out like a light every single night!

I guess I’ve also given up on planning for tomorrow... maybe just spending half an hour each night on it at this point.

One dose of pure mental chaos,
Two tracks of some soft, melodic Madonna vibes,
And then just Jesus' prayer to pass the time while counting sheep.

1x Collection of scattered thoughts,
2x Virgin Mary melodies (moderate cantabile),
Jesus' prayer (where you count the sheep).
