When you right-click it in Device Manager, does it give you any options to reinstall the drivers or maybe try a rollback? If that doesn't do anything, your best bet is probably just running a System Restore if you happen to have a restore point saved...

I attempted to run the update, but when I get to the one that's still pending, the system insists that the latest version is already installed. To make matters worse, when I boot into Safe Mode, there's either no restore point listed at all, or it simply isn't appearing where it should be...

Just hit up the Control Panel and look for "Add New Hardware" or whatever it’s called these days. It should sniff out the uninstalled monitor, then you'll see it pop up in the Device Manager.

So, I’m running into a bit of a headache while setting up Windows 7. Every time I try to get things running using the driver CD that came with my GeForce GT 740, the system just labels my screen as a Generic non-pnp monitor. I even tried hunting down the drivers online to see if that would fix it, but nope—same exact issue. Anyone know how to actually sort this out?

What kind of monitor we talking about? And did you actually enable plug and play in the BIOS or Windows...

I'm rocking a Samsung SyncMaster 940nw. I've been digging through my BIOS, but I'm not seeing any Plug and Play options anywhere. Everything was running smooth until now, but out of nowhere, the system just isn't recognizing what kind of monitor is hooked up.

Jacob Martinez6 said:I somehow managed to accidentally uninstall my Generic PnP Monitor (one of two), and now my screen won't even turn on when I boot up my computer! I went into Device Manager while in Safe Mode, but all I see is one single Generic PnP Monitor marked with a little yellow warning triangle. Does anyone have any advice on how to get things back to normal? I'm running Windows 10 32-bit on this machine. 🙏🙏 Thanks!

So, if you could "accidentally" uninstall a monitor driver—which, let's be honest, has absolutely zero impact on whether the hardware actually receives power or displays an image during startup—then you could just as easily "accidentally" disable a cable by unplugging it halfway or something! It’s like saying you accidentally broke your car because you deleted the GPS app. It doesn't quite track, right? Anyway, try swapping your cables first: take the one currently in the PC and plug it into the monitor, then take the one in the monitor and put it in the PC. If that doesn't work, try plugging the monitor into a different computer, or hook your current PC up to a different monitor or even just a TV to see if you can get a picture.
