So, I’m heading out on a ski trip with my family this January, and since I don't actually ski, I have this little ritual where I hit the pool every single morning.
Now I just realized my period is scheduled to hit right during that trip. I'm currently on Triquilar, and usually, things last about three or four days. I was wondering, if I don't take a break from the pills—like, if I just jump straight into a new pack instead of stopping—will I skip that month entirely? And then would it just come back once I finish the second pack?

Yeah, you can.🙂

Thanks, I'll give that a shot. Hopefully it won't make me nauseous or anything? I guess my stomach is just always a bit sensitive during those first few days after opening a new pack of meds...

I didn't deal with any nausea, but my cycle was totally thrown off whack. I had been taking birth control pills for an extended period just so I wouldn't have to deal with my period while I was on vacation at the beach. Once I finished one pack, I kept taking pills from a different pack for a few extra days. It honestly took me months to get my cycle back to normal, which was such a nightmare!

The simplest method is just to start the next pack immediately—without the break—essentially skipping a period entirely. It shouldn't disrupt the cycle. I tried this over the summer after consulting with my OB-GYN, and it worked perfectly fine. Of course, this assumes you're healthy and following a doctor's specific guidance...

Hi everyone.

My OB-GYN is currently out on vacation, so I am reaching out here because I could really, truly use some guidance.
Last Wednesday (July 4th), I finished my last pack of Triquilar, which I’ve been taking for about four months now. Since I wanted to make sure my period didn't ruin my summer vacation plans, a friend of mine—who happens to be a doctor—suggested that I just start the next pack immediately the very next day (July 5th). Her logic was that I would essentially "skip" my period for the month while maintaining full contraceptive protection.
However, yesterday (July 12th), I started experiencing some light spotting. Is this what they call breakthrough bleeding, and should I actually be worried? Is everything functioning correctly with the birth control, or is this a sign that I should stop taking them altogether?
I’ve started to panic a little bit because I went looking for advice on WebMD, and their dosage instructions suggest that if you want to delay your period, you should take the last ten pills of the current pack before starting the next one. But I went ahead and started right at the beginning of the new pack instead.
I would honestly appreciate any insight you all might have.

Thanks so much!

So I just checked the instructions for Triquillar, and apparently you're supposed to take the last 10 pills as extenders... Gosh, how did you forget to check the manual when you were trying to delay things? I’m always obsessively double-checking everything! 🤣
I honestly can't tell if you're still covered. Maybe try calling your doctor and asking?

I’m actually on vacation right now... and I was browsing some medical sites—CyberMed, or whatever you call those online health portals—and they were saying you can just start a new pack immediately without waiting for that seven-day break.
(We did use a condom, just to be safe, so at least we have that layer of protection, but honestly, the anxiety is still there)
