I’m not entirely sure why—it just popped into my head—but I was just thinking about this movie. It’s been ages since I last watched it, so I probably don't have much profound insight to offer, but man, it is just such a great film. I know most people tend to turn their noses up at melodramas—they can be so polarizing—but honestly, a melodrama done this well is worth its weight in gold. My favorite part has to be the story of the Black maid and her white daughter... it's just—well, it's heartbreaking, no matter how you look at it.

A truly incredible film.

I’ve watched this film twice now, and both times I ended up tearing up like a little kid (honestly, I think it would happen even if I were watching it right this second). That ending is just too devastating to be ignored by any "tough guy." 😁

The link you posted actually leads to the 1959 remake (though, in my opinion, it holds up just as well as the original).

I really hope CNN decides to air both versions again soon!

I’ve always been a huge fan of Sirk. He was incredibly brave for his era, honestly... I just love those kinds of movies—that old-school classic feel. That’s actually why I loved Quote: Far from Heaven with Julianna Moore so much; it feels like such a beautiful homage to Sirk's style.

I honestly can't remember which of those two versions I watched... the movie is just so raw and powerful... I saw it with my mom because she won't stop talking about it... I think it's totally spellbinding 🙂

I haven't seen the original version, which—if you believe the internet—was allegedly quite racist. It’s fascinating that Freddie Washington turned down offers to hide her heritage and race; in fact, she was a fierce political activist and served as the president of the Black (eek) SAG-AFTRA.
In Sirk's version, that role is played by a white actress. However, Sirk masterfully repackages everything into this manipulative blend of pathos and irony, resulting in a truly provocative film.

By contrast, Quote: Far from Heaven is just an unnecessary, campy mess and a mere technical exercise—a plain, issue-based drama stripped of both context and soul.

The only thing I can actually say for certain is that I know the R.E.M. track "Imitation of Life."😳

Man, what a beautiful movie. I watched it so many times when I was a kid, so the memories are still pretty vivid. I think it was on your channel about six months ago during that early morning 😠 slot, and I completely slept through it.
