Smoking after thyroid surgery?

What do you even say to a doctor (specifically one from the Holy Spirit hospital) who tells a patient—right after performing surgery for a thyroid tumor—that they can smoke or not, only to respond with, "Well, I smoke too..." when asked? Is he seriously suggesting she shouldn't even bother considering it? ¤

I mean, what else is there to say?
She’s an adult, after all.
She knows perfectly well that smoking is bad news for everyone—whether you're young or in peak health.
But she still asks questions like that.
At the end of the day, it's her call.
