Is this what people are obsessing over on Stack Overflow now? Good grief, I honestly can't make heads or tails of any of this anymore... 🙂

You’re totally missing the point. It's a metaphor, with a capital M. Dorothy was in Oz (not the prison kind), right? And Oz is basically like Yugoslavia. She realized everything was a mess, turned tail, and headed back to Kansas—which is America. 😁 😁 😁

I gotta hand it to myself, even an Egg wouldn't have come up with something this clever. 🥳

More like Cleveland? 😵 😕 😢 😢

Then what on earth does overflow have to do with any of this? 😢

I’m ready to be institutionalized. Honestly, isn't it about time? 👋 😢

Through shoes soaked by autumn rain... 🙂 🙂 🙂

Oh man, I am absolutely wasted... someone please call me an Uber! 🙂

Masonic conspiracy
😈

Walking through puddles, autumn rain... 🙂 🙂 🙂

Man, he’s just singing. It was fall, and his shoes were trashed. You really think everything needs some deep, hidden meaning? Newsflash: it doesn't. 😬

Honestly, he’s just singing a song. It was autumn, and he had holes in his shoes. Do you really think every single detail needs to have some profound, hidden meaning? It doesn't! 😬

Give me a break. If he actually had holes in his shoes, he would've stayed home. Get it? A hole is just a symbol, just like the shoe or the rain.

I don't even know anymore. 😢

They ripped on his way from the stadium to his place. I mean, you have no idea how far it is walking from Central Park to Kansas... Oakland 😁

So, what they're basically saying is he’s a patriot, just one without a single cent to his name? 😢

True, patriotism doesn't put food on the table. 😢

Alright, we finally dealt with the Egg. Now let's move on to Elvis Presley—that guy is pure legend. I’ve always been obsessed with this line:
"for revenge and midnight are like twin sisters, born at midnight, one just before, the other just after"

Some wise guy once tried to explain the whole depth of that lyric to me on some news forum. Get this: they're like twin sisters, but they aren't actually twins because their birth certificates don't match, you know? That's why he says they're like, implying they're similar yet distinct 😁

I once had some wise soul on the news feeds explain the sheer depth of those lines to me. You see, they are like twins, but they aren't actually identical because their birth certificates don't show the exact same time. Get it? That's why they are like each other—implying they are similar yet fundamentally different. 😁

But if it happens at Midnight, then one could be at 00:00:00 and the other at 00:00:30, which technically falls on the exact same day. 😢

You think it's pride, huh? 😬 Honestly, I feel like someone locked Elvis Presley in a cargo ship and gave him some LSD, because that would definitely explain why this lyric makes zero sense.

And what, have they been on that trip for the last 15 years? 🤣 Just totally out of it? 😁

Midnight, pride, the abyss... it's all the same garbage 😬

Now that Jack Sparrow is sending me nasty emails like he's writing to Rolling Stone 🤣

New York City is one thing, but when Jack Sparrow sends me some nasty email masquerading as a Rolling Stone report 🤣

😂

It isn't even directed at you; it's for Elvis Presley. Or an Egg. Or just some random guy out in Kansas. 😱 😁

Yeah, that’s all well and good, but there isn't actually a word "like" in the lyric 🙂

OP OP! I really respect that people actually bother to learn the lyrics, even if they spent years dragging the man through the mud. 👍

I’d give everyone here three points just for being able to watch TV without losing their minds:

rutvica said:It actually reminds me of this time back in high school when a buddy of mine explained how Deep Purple wrote Child in time using basically the exact same logic.

The whole backstory behind "Smoke on the Water" is wild, too. So, Frank Zappa was performing at this venue in Montreux, right by Lake Geneva in Switzerland, when some idiot fired a flare mid-set and set the whole building on fire. Zappa starts yelling that the place is burning and everyone needs to get out—but the crowd just stood there thinking he was messing around or making it part of the act! It wasn't until the flames actually swallowed the hall that they realized he wasn't joking, and pretty soon, the whole place was toasted.

The next morning, the guys from Deep Purple—who were also at the festival—were looking out from their hotel window at the smoke from the ruins drifting over the lake like a thick fog. All they had to do was add those legendary chords to that scene...
