The difference comes out to exactly 30 hours and 3 minutes.

I mean, Bryan Torres, are you seriously expecting people to check in on Reddit more often than they change their underwear? 😛 😳

Let's not get worked up😠 ...that was just the introductory lecture,
the actual workshop kicks off this Thursday (03/30/2006) at 7:00 PM over at the NBA arena, so
even if someone misses it, they can always show up later and sign up... and if there are more than two or three people like that, they might end up missing the follow-up sessions too...

So, I guess this deserves one more mention...🙏

Aha, so why lie about it? You clearly already grabbed it. 😁😁
...
Bryan Torres, how many people actually show up to your workshops? And does anyone stick around after they're done?

Well, at the last one, we had about 19 people split into three groups...
After the introductory lecture, maybe 20 folks showed up, but I suspect the final number might be a little lower than that this time around...

Unfortunately, statistically speaking, very few stay until the end. It’s a bit of a mystery to me why that happens (😕 )
The thing is, like I mentioned before, everyone just decides for themselves how much they want to get out of what the NBA offers...

But I have a feeling this latest workshop—which, by the way, is the first one I've organized since starting back on January 16, 2006—might actually produce more people who will really dive into filmmaking... and somehow (even if it sounds a bit illogical) I feel like I might be largely responsible for that...😉

So, I guess I deserve a little credit for this---->🙏

Exactly—that’s the missing piece we need—more technicians. 🙄

Same thing happened here. Nobody wanted to hang out. And even if they did, it wasn't exactly a crew you'd die to make movies with. Plus, the group before us actually stayed together, but they just kept churning out terrible footage. 😁

Bryan Torres said:The thing is, you can't actually join the NBA without passing both the exam and that workshop; think of the workshop as a sort of extended onboarding process for joining the club.

So, I was just reading up on these workshops that are already underway, and it got me thinking... does this mean someone who’s been in the game for, say, twenty years—someone who's been drawing, filming, and editing their whole life—STILL has to sit through a strictly beginner-level course just to get officially recognized as an NBA member? 🙂

Also, what’s the vibe regarding age? Like, what's the average age range for people attending these workshops or for the current members of the club? 🙂

Thanks!

Well... I suppose it works like this: if that person has been working consistently for 20 years and is fully up to speed with all the [NEW!/DIGITAL!] tech, then they could potentially join Film Forum without taking the workshop... they would just need to pay the annual membership fee ($67=which is included in the $267/workshop price)...

Those kinds of exceptions are approved by the president of Film Forum... (and that isn't me, I guess)...

There isn't any age discrimination at the club... though statistically speaking, it seems the most active folks tend to be in the 20-25 age bracket...

The workshop has indeed started, but we've only held one session so far...

I'm still accepting students even if they missed the first two lectures...

And if more than two people miss them, we might organize a makeup session for those first two lessons...

The second lecture is this Thursday (04/06) at 7 PM...
The third lecture is on Tuesday (04/11) at 7 PM... <--that's the final chance if anyone else wants to jump in...

... So, if there are any of you out there who have actually been or even just started:

What’s the real deal? I'd love to hear about your experiences and what you actually think of it all. 🙂

Hey everyone,

A new season at the New York Film Academy is officially kicking off. If you've ever wondered how an idea actually turns into a script—moving through filming, editing, and all the way to post-production for a short film—you can learn the whole process here at our annual academy...

The program blends theory with hands-on practice over two months, led by some seriously talented industry pros. We’re hosting an intro lecture on October 30th at 7 PM in the Film Forum theater, and then classes officially start on November 4th at 7 PM.

Check out the details here:

Hope you don't mind me dropping a little promo for this amateur filmmaking school...
