HDD - macOS is throwing an error saying it's dying, but... my PC seems perfectly fine

Here are a few screenshots for context:

I find myself wondering what on earth this actually signifies; this has been happening for several days now, yet there haven't been any peculiar clicking sounds coming from the drive, nor has the computer stuttered during operation—in fact, I successfully migrated about 300GB to an external drive without a single hiccup.

Is this merely some phantom alarm, or should I start hunting for deals on a new hard drive?

I wouldn't call it a false alarm; you're telling me exactly what's wrong. Check how old that drive actually is and see if it's still under warranty—if so, get it replaced. If you want to try one last thing, run a full format, not just a quick one, then reinstall macOS and see if the issue persists. If it does, that drive is a ticking time bomb and could die on you at any second.

And while you're messing around with it, you might as well double-check the cables and connectors too...

I honestly don't think there's any saving this one—if macOS itself is flagging that the drive is in trouble, then things are looking pretty grim (in my opinion). If it's an older hard drive and you're out of warranty, my two cents would be to just grab a new one.

It seems to me that we’re looking at a lost cause here; that Bad sector count has actually climbed since I snapped those screenshots above... I’ve gone through the motions of inspecting the connectors and even swapped them out, but nothing changes... I suppose I’ll attempt a full format, but frankly, I don't have high hopes for a positive outcome.

The drive is still under warranty, but apparently, the protocol requires shipping it off to a service center first, and they’ve warned me the diagnostic process could drag on for over a month... Given that timeline, I think I’ll just bite the bullet and buy a replacement now, because if they somehow "fix" this one, I'll simply end up owning two drives.😬

True, but when you actually sit down and look at the numbers, they aren't really all that expensive...

"It’s going to die" right when you least expect it. I dealt with a similar headache once where the drive barely clocked twenty hours of total runtime before acting up. I hadn't touched the thing in years, and when I finally hooked it back up, the system could see it was there, but that was about it. It took me several days of agonizing just to scrape what data I could off of it. Eventually, the retailer honored the warranty—it had a five-year coverage plan—and they swapped it out for a brand-new unit.

Just to wrap this little saga up.
I sent my drive in for repair since it’s still under warranty. Since I was left without a computer, I just popped in a cheap 120 GB SSD and waited for the replacement to arrive. To my surprise, the new one showed up in just a week. I really want to give a shout-out to Best Buy for handling everything so professionally and without any unnecessary back-and-forth. They shipped the drive overseas, I sent them a note explaining the issue along with the receipt in the box, they inspected it—you can actually track the entire service progress on their website via a link they text you—and presto, a brand new unit arrived exactly seven days after I sent the old one off.
