So, here is the situation. I realize this thread is already quite crowded, but I am truly in need of some perspective regarding my own circumstances. Looking back on high school, I met many different people... though, admittedly, I seem to gravitate toward the wrong crowd more often than not. I once had a friend who took advantage of me constantly; it actually took me four full years to finally see through her. Every time we grabbed coffee, the conversation revolved entirely around her life. I found myself playing the role of the protector, covering for her with her parents whenever she got into trouble with boys and such. In hindsight, I have come to realize that the core issue resided within myself. I allowed her behavior to persist because I was far too accommodating, always prioritizing her needs while completely neglecting my own sense of self. In the interim, I have grown close to two other friends whom I have known for a long time. However, even with them, I feel the need to walk on eggshells. If I express an opinion that doesn't align perfectly with their views, I am met with criticism or, worse, relentless gossip. I simply cannot continue living this way. That isn't who I am. I have no interest in petty drama, nor do I desire a friendship where I am afraid to speak my mind or even say the word "no." I have spent my life trying to be kind to everyone, yet I struggle to find a genuine friend—someone I can joke around with, someone built on a foundation of mutual trust and respect. I always seem to end up with people who ultimately let me down. While I am on good terms with a wide circle of acquaintances, I feel a sense of hesitation about reaching out to any of them for a casual meetup. What should my next step be? Should I firmly assert my boundaries with my current friends, or am I fundamentally mistaken in my approach? I have two male friends with whom I am incredibly close, and I wouldn't trade those friendships for anything; why, then, is finding a true female friend so elusive?
And thank you all in advance.🙂

Maybe you just happen to be part of that rare 1% of women who doesn't engage in constant gossip, unlike the other 99%.
I suppose that sets you apart from most women, which might explain why you tend to get along better with guys. Those kinds of petty conversations probably don't sit well with you, and you seem much more at home in male company. Honestly, you’d likely enjoy hanging out with any group of men, not just those specific two. If you find you're more comfortable around them, then I guess there's no harm in sticking with them. You might eventually cross paths with a female friend down the road who actually shares your vibe and values.
