There were definitely some adventure elements involved—mostly because I was barely sober half the time. I managed to lose a ton of gear and ended up trekking on foot at 4 AM from downtown all the way to the suburb and once out to the mine.😁

Marathon runner, obviously.😁
You really should have just kept going straight all the way to that adventure park in Chicago instead... 🤣

By the way, we're definitely overdoing it with all this walking. Seriously...

One of my classmates saw me and just started losing it for half an hour, asking if I was out of my mind, why on earth would I be carrying cigarettes at that age. 😁

Does anyone else vividly remember those old German lessons from elementary school?

student: Who wants cigarettes (or something along those lines)
Mr. Miller:
Who has cigarettes?
student: gum cigarettes Mr. Miller!

Anyway, here are my top four funniest things about those middle school foreign language textbooks:

1. That endless loop of "I'm Sandy. This is Bill. My friend Bill. Hello!" and ten more variations just like it.
2. "They are drinking hot lemonade," right after someone takes a massive gulp.
3. The frantic "HURRY UP!" shouted by the woman on the cassette tape. 🙂
4. That obnoxious "PEEEEEEEEP" sound during the Listen and Repeat exercises.

That’s elementary school stuff. Manfred was also in middle school.
Manfred was alone at home. Manfred in the countryside. Manfred whatever...😳

And what was the name of that idiot who used to make airplane models? Was that also Manfred, god bless him?

My top 3 highlights from school:

2. When I claimed starfish eat sand.
3. When I said viruses in your brain have kids.

My top 5 biggest wins:
1. Sneaking my finished physics homework onto the teacher's desk.
2. For a German assignment about "the world of electronic images," I copied a whole text out of a book about American agricultural development between the World Wars.
3. Sitting in a circle during a logic exam because "that's how we always sit."

My top three most idiotic ways to wake up:
1) In a bathtub, realizing your parents are scrubbing you down after finding you passed out in a ditch three blocks from home—after they spent half a day hunting for you.
2) On a diving platform about 50 yards out at sea, fully dressed in evening wear—bone DRY—with zero clue how you got there or how to get back without ruining the suit (ended up hitching a ride on a jet ski passing by).
3) In a sleeping bag in a hotel parking lot, wedged between cars and nearly getting run over—even though the night before, you were dead certain you’d found the perfect hiding spot in the woods behind the hotel.

Author's note: One of these didn't happen to me—it was a friend.
