Coupland isn't really my cup of tea, but I wholeheartedly agree with the rest. To be honest, I haven't managed to get past "on road" with Kerouac yet, and even Vonnegut I whisper ("Galapagos", "mechanical piano", and a few short stories)—I'm hoping the New York Public Library has a better selection...

Well, I'll swap one Douglas from your list for another—Adams, obviously. But since I don't want to be just another person obsessed with the "guide", I'll mention that I stumbled upon two of his shorter novels in a Monolith edition; they have nothing to do with the "guide", but they're just as brilliant.

I was actually thinking about adding those, but I didn't get to Charlie until way too late. And the Witch? That was my absolute Horror growing up. I was terrified some creepy old lady would brush my hair and trap me in a painting or turn me into a chicken or something equally twisted, so I just skipped it. 🙂
