Dizziness after taking Progesterone and aspirin + ibuprofen!

So, here’s the deal: I’m currently on Progesterone (I haven't had my period in two months, so I'm supposed to take 100mg capsules twice a day for 15 days) plus aspirin + ibuprofen (also twice a day at 400mg) and some 500mg vaginal suppositories (they found some bacteria during my Pap smear), which I've been taking for 10 days now.

Everything was fine when I took my dose this morning. But then, about an hour and a half ago, I took my dose (both the pills and the suppository) and now I'm feeling so dizzy I'm actually scared to walk.
The thing is, the paperwork for the Progesterone lists dizziness and drowsiness as side effects, and suggests that if that happens, you could:
- lower the individual dose
- just take the whole daily dose at night or vaginally instead (since you can do it either way)
- potentially shorten the cycle or bleeding duration (which isn't an issue since mine hasn't even started yet)
- start the treatment later in the cycle (it usually recommends starting on day 17, but I'm already on day 19)
Since my cycles aren't regular anyway, that last one doesn't really apply to me.
Usually, these kinds of reactions happen because of an overdose.

Now I'm sitting here panicking because I don't know what to do. My OBGYN saw me earlier this morning, so I can't exactly call him back right now. Does anyone actually know anything about this? Seriously guys, I'm freaking out a little!

If your symptoms are causing you genuine concern, give your OB-GYN a call and speak directly with the doctor on call.

Look, I have zero clue how to even find their number, and honestly, I don't even know which hospital has someone on duty right now...

It’s entirely possible that the issue stems from a problematic interaction with Metronidazole. Essentially, Metronidazole acts as an inhibitor of microsomal liver enzymes, which can inadvertently spike the concentration of any other medication metabolized through those same pathways.

Now, I am not positive whether Utrogestan is processed via that specific hepatic route—you really ought to consult a clinical pharmacologist, perhaps someone over at the Mayo Clinic—but it might be worth checking the "Drug Interactions" section of the prescribing information... take a look.

If that indeed turns out to be the cause, you would likely need to discontinue the Metronidazole while on Utrogestan, or alternatively, adjust the Utrogestan dosage while taking the Metronidazole.

However, the most prudent course of action is to consult a clinical pharmacologist, or even a gynecologist who specializes in, or possesses expertise in, clinical pharmacology.

So, I went ahead and asked my OB-GYN about this, and they gave me the green light to take them both at the same time. I actually just started taking them today.

I was reading up on how to boost the effectiveness, and it says here:
Cimetidine slows down how the liver processes metronidazole, which can end up bumping up the levels of metronidazole in your bloodstream.

Metronidazole made me feel absolutely terrible.

I'm not sure about the Utrogestan, but I think you can feel totally safe skipping the Efloran.
Taking Efloran for 10 days is plenty of time to see if there's any progress, assuming the bacteria is sensitive to metronidazole.
And honestly, I don't think there's much point in dragging out an antibiotic course longer than 10 days if it isn't working.

So, if I were you, I'd stick with the gynecological stuff and just drop the antibiotic. But hey, that's just my two cents...

Man... I have no clue which city you're talking about, but there is absolutely no way you're getting any actual useful advice about using Utrogestan + Efloran by calling 211 here in the States.

I am completely lost here and honestly don't get it at all. Please explain!

Anyway, I called 911—well, okay, I called the nurse line—and they basically told me to go check the medical journals. Then I called Dr. Petrov's office, and they said I just need to space them out a bit (like, wait half an hour after eating something) before taking the Metronidazole since it's "tough on the stomach."

God, my head is spinning now. I was so freaking panicked! And I don't even know why I was making such a big deal out of it. This morning I took them both together and felt totally fine.

No, Efloran is just another name for metronidazole.

Efloran, metronidazole, and Medazol are basically the exact same thing, just made by different companies. It's an antibiotic.

I was given mine via IV drip... I felt absolutely terrible for weeks afterward.

But man, it works wonders against anaerobic bacteria.

I’m honestly at my wit's end here. I have to take this stuff tomorrow morning, but I have to get behind the wheel and drive! How on earth am I supposed to deal with this? What should I do? Is it actually okay if I take it a little bit later in the day? (Even though I know the timing is supposed to be exact)

Also, does anyone actually know what kind of bacteria we're even talking about here...
I tried asking my OBGYN, but he just gave me some vague answer about how it's normally just sitting there, but then it starts multiplying whenever your immune system takes a hit or if you go too long without a period. He didn't even bother telling me the actual name of it! 😕

Look, I did ask him, but he just gave me this vague description and I didn't end up panicking as much as I should have. At the time, I was totally lost because I've never dealt with any kind of bacterial issues before, so yeah, I was a little freaked out. I think he actually mentioned the name, but honestly, those Latin names just go right over my head...
