Pregnancy and Chlamydia

Can someone who actually knows what they're talking about—or at least has some experience with this—give me the lowdown on this nasty bacteria:
how much of a risk is it for the baby?
does it cause miscarriages?
can Amoxicillin actually clear it up? (My doctor put me on it, but now I’m stuck waiting three whole weeks for a follow-up swab to see if it even worked)
Please, just tell me everything you know. I really need some peace of mind here...😢

I should also mention I’m in my seventh week, and everything looked fine on the ultrasound... but where is this baby supposed to be? I know chlamydia can cause ectopic pregnancies...
I’m worried about miscarriages too, and is Amoxicillin even effective for this? I’ve heard from so many people that Sumamed is actually the better option.

It’s possible your doctor is being cautious about prescribing Azithromycin during the first trimester; I have a feeling there are restrictions on using it that early on, though I could be mistaken. My partner and I have moved past a chlamydia infection—he’s cleared now—and we have officially begun our journey toward trying for a baby. I am fully aware of the potential complications; I have likely read every single medical article available online regarding the aftermath of such an infection. To be honest, I’m five weeks pregnant right now, and to my absolute shock, I’ve tested positive for chlamydia. Like, how on earth does this even happen???!!! 😲 Back when I first found out earlier this February that I had it, my partner and I immediately started a course of antibiotics. But then, when we went back for follow-up testing in April, it came back positive again. Now I’m stuck taking erythromycin, and believe me, I am not thrilled about having to deal with all these pills. If there’s anything else you want to know, please just ask! by

I am genuinely glad to hear you’re expecting again, and I truly hope everything goes smoothly this time around... As for me, I have no idea how long I actually carried her, but I certainly know the potential fallout regarding fertility issues down the road. Chlamydia is actually a bacterium, not a virus. Honestly, thank goodness it isn't a virus like HPV, because then there wouldn't be a cure, but since it's bacterial, it can be treated. The real kicker is how aggressive it can be; it's notorious for causing infertility, and in many cases, it's the primary culprit behind it.
Since they caught it in your case, they're treating you, which is good. Just make sure you go back for a follow-up test three weeks after you finish the medication to be absolutely certain it's cleared. Good luck.
