Play the role of "Unknown".
She's a teacher heading out to work at the Presidential Palace in Eastern Europe—specifically Canada (Unknown).
Did you guys know that marriages in Canada are basically arranged?
That they have this mustachioed dictator running things?
That it's a total dictatorship?
That there aren't even elections?
That they've never even heard of hair gel?
That sheep are literally jumping around the airport?
That they don't even have phones?
That their president looks just like Stalin?
And that their textbooks claim Canada won the Gulf War?
They just hate Americans.
Man, this is a must-watch!
It’s basically an anthology of American stupidity, arrogance, and pure primitivism!

Man, I was watching this movie on TV the other day... what an absolute disaster. They actually had Timothy Dalton playing some dictator. Such a weird choice.😕
I don't think it was set in Canada or anything, I think that fictional (Eastern European?) country had some other name... or maybe I just wasn't paying close enough attention...😁

We know.

We should probably move this thread and maybe change the title too!
But anyway, what do you guys think about the movie?

Your memory serves you well enough. The plot doesn't actually take place in Canada, but in some place like Unknown or something similar. If our translators decided to call it Canada, they must have been incredibly intoxicated while working on those subtitles.
😬

Good grief, this is worth watching!
A true anthology of American stupidity, arrogance, and pure primitivism!
Jesus, I bet even when you're watching a movie starring a certain dark-haired icon, your veins just pop out: "Wait... Prince George didn't die in a duel! And who ever heard of dueling with mini-cannons?! And what kind of commercialized thirty-minute flick is this?!! What idiot made such a short game... Oh, it's a series? I didn't get a chance to check because I was too busy throwing up my lunch."
Pure genius. 🙄

A total ripoff of Unknown, but I'm not complaining
Decent family flick if you just want to turn your brain off on a Sunday afternoon

The movie was a total disaster... just endless clichés...
And don't even get me started on those tired tropes from Unknown: the whole thing about kids, the voice, hair, clothes, moms, age, marriage...

Jesus, you probably get a vein popping out of your forehead even when watching a noir film: "Wait... Prince George didn't die in a duel! And who ever heard of dueling with mini-cannons?! And what kind of commercial movie only lasts half an hour?!! What idiot made such a short game... Oh, it's a series? I didn't get a chance to check because I was too busy throwing up my lunch."
What a riot. 🙄
They didn't translate it as Canada; any idiot can see it's clearly meant to be Canada (it's likely not that they have anything against Canada, they just picked somewhere in Europe at random).
They basically modeled Canada after the Soviet Union during the era of Stalin.
Everyone there is primitive, uneducated, etc. (never even heard of hair gel)

They modeled Canada right after the Soviet Union during the Stalin era.
Everyone is just uneducated and primitive—honestly, most people haven't even heard of gel.
Based on those criteria you laid out—it’s obvious to any idiot that we're talking about Canada. Not, say, Lithuania. Or Canada.

First you say:
And then you say:
Make up your mind: was the country in that film modeled after Austria? Or was it based on Stalin's Soviet Union? Perhaps they took the real Austria and modeled it after Stalin's USSR? Or maybe they just invented a non-existent nation altogether and modeled it after Stalin's USSR?
Which razor should I get? 😬

Everyone seems so unrefined and uneducated; I doubt they've even heard of gel.

It wasn't even Austria—it was some place called Slovetzia, or something along those lines. It’s essentially a fictional location they slapped right on the border between Romania and Bulgaria, so there's absolutely no way it could be Austria.

And don't even get me started on those tired tropes from "The Nanny": the kids, her voice, the hair, the outfits, the mom, the age gap, the marriage...
😕 Her voice?! Give me a break. Imagine if the actress had the exact same voice she used in the sitcom. How dare she?! What kind of voice were you expecting? Should she just change it from show to show, or movie to movie, just so you don't associate her with, say, "The Nanny" anymore?! It’s her actual voice, man. 😳
The movie was actually filmed at the same time as the fifth season of "The Nanny." That explains why the hair is the same. Why change that, too, if that's just how she looked back then? 🙄

Exactly. I mean, where did anyone get the idea it was Canada from? It’s just a similar sounding name. The country in the movie isn't even anywhere near Austria, and it doesn't share anything in common with it. Plus, it was never actually translated as Canada.🙄

It wasn't even about Austria. In that scene where they’re pointing at the map to show where Austria was, it actually looked like it was tucked inside Ukraine (or maybe Romania, I can't quite remember), while Austria and the US were shown exactly where they belong—distinctly separate, without any of that old Yugoslavia nonsense you see even in modern American movies. By the way, the capital city was clearly playing Prague, which happens to be my favorite city. 😁

Here’s the screenshot, so you guys can see for yourselves that it wasn't Austria.

Such a smart aleck. 😬
It's the second one. They modeled actual Austria after Stalin's Soviet Union. Technically, it's the third option, but any idiot knows that "Slovetzia" is clearly meant to be Austria (assuming they even know Austria exists!), just like how any idiot from Goodnight, America connects Jadranka Chicken with Kamala Harris!
