Can someone recommend a book or drop a link?
I don't want my meals to be boring. If everything is just light stuff like grilled chicken or fish, I need it to actually taste good.

For breakfast—stick to cereal or muesli like someone else mentioned, mix it with milk or fruit yogurt (and seriously, do not skip breakfast).
Load up on yogurt (go for the low-fat stuff, like the Chobani varieties) maybe half a liter a day.
Eat at least 5 times a day (including two snacks, like two apples or a banana, or one big yogurt).
Cut back on salt as much as possible.

Just some basic dietary tweaks I use alongside staying active. It keeps my bloodwork and blood pressure perfect.

Later!

But why cut out the mineral water?

and never skip breakfast).

Exactly.

Because it’s still salt, 😉 believe it or not. Even "mineral salt" is just salt. It's nothing more than extra sodium for someone already struggling to manage high blood pressure.

Right, well—I hadn't considered that angle. Thanks for pointing it out.

There’s nothing to it 🙂

I was caught off guard too, but once I actually checked the ingredients list on the label, the truth came out.

On a different note, I have been preoccupied with something else entirely...
It is common knowledge that a healthy target for blood cholesterol is under 100 mg/dL
My dear wife😍 is sitting at 120.
The trouble is, we haven't been able to find a definitive chart that outlines the specific clinical ranges or what these numbers actually signify in terms of risk.
If one were to commit to a rigorous diet and a regular exercise regimen😉, what kind of reduction should we realistically anticipate after, say, a month?
I am completely flying blind here—are we looking at a meaningful drop of 1.0, 0.1, or perhaps a negligible 0.01...?
And frankly, how much cause for alarm should 120 actually cause?

For about seven days now, I’ve been strictly sticking to "light" fare—mostly just fish, chicken, turkey... you know, the usual lean proteins.
Once I finish my meals, physically speaking, I am full. But there is this lingering sensation missing... that certain sense of sweet, decadent satisfaction. I can't quite find the right way to articulate it.
My mind keeps wandering toward things like a greasy cheeseburger, a thick slice of pepperoni pizza, or maybe some savory BBQ brisket.
I find myself craving fat, depth of flavor... real richness.
And yet, I am still attempting to exercise restraint.
Oh, wait—scratch that. I'm failing. I just made a homemade savory pastry.😁 It’s filled with low-fat cheese, no heavy cream, just a tiny bit of butter.
A little indulgence to treat ourselves.
My husband was the one who insisted on it, anyway.
I suspect life would be significantly easier if we were in the middle of a sweltering summer heatwave.
In this weather, this specific type of hunger... I find myself longing for bacon, sausage, sharp cheddar, or even some rich sour cream. Ugh.

Target levels: Total Cholesterol < 100 mg/dL
Triglycerides < 135 mg/dL
HDL > 50 mg/dL
LDL 88–130 mg/dL

If we’re just looking at total cholesterol, hitting a 115 isn't exactly a disaster.
I actually managed to drop my own total cholesterol by 40 points in just three weeks. My go-to routine was eating one grapefruit a day, sipping on green tea, and adding some garlic and apple cider vinegar into the mix. I found it really helps to structure your meals—start the day with fruit, move to whole grains, and then you can figure out lunch as you go. You don't need to overdo it on chicken either; honestly, switching over to mostly fish makes a huge difference. Just keep in mind that diet isn't everything; genetics plays a massive role in how these numbers shake out.
