I was just scrolling through the movie list on this subforum and realized nobody here has actually mentioned Delicatessen. Has anyone else checked it out? It’s directed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet and Caro (the minds behind >, >, and >), and honestly, it's this incredibly dark comedy shot in that signature Jeunet-esque style, featuring his usual cast of characters.

I can't recommend it enough. 😎

So, I caught it. It was like, 3 AM on a Friday night, just stumbling through channels on CBS... caught it by pure accident.
I actually liked it. It’s weird, definitely interesting, and honestly? Visually stunning. It’s also pretty sick. But hey, that's my thing... I've always had a soft spot for that kind of stuff.
Still, though... it’s just too bizarre, too out there for me to really recommend it to just anyone. You have to be incredibly careful when you start suggesting those kinds of art films to people. Trust me, I've been through it... people absolutely tore me apart once upon a time when I tried recommending things like Jim Jarmusch's Dead Man, that Soderbergh-esque Schizopolis, or even Gilliam's Brazil.
If you're into that European art-house vibe, go for it. For everyone else? Just stay far away!

I actually liked it; it’s weird and engaging, and visually it’s really striking. It’s also pretty twisted. But honestly, that’s exactly my kind of thing.

Same here, 😁

But that movie isn't even weirder than The City of Lost Children (same director), and most people actually seemed to enjoy that one. 😉

My favorite little moment is always when the butcher finishes up and asks—is there anything else on your mind? 😂

I’ve seen this movie twice now. Honestly, highly recommend it to anyone. A while back, it had a tiny one-day run at a theater near Central Park, and my friend and I were so obsessed with it that we wouldn't stop talking about it—people actually thought we were losing our minds. Later, I watched it again with an American buddy, and even he thought I was crazy for liking it so much.

I actually picked up a copy of that movie ages ago. Honestly, I’m probably due for a rewatch at this point. 😉

Absolutely brilliant film. 👍

And while we're on the subject... I have to say, the production design by Miljan Kljakovic - Krek was nothing short of phenomenal—he actually walked away with both a Felix and a Caesar for his work on this one!

Absolute masterpiece

Honestly, this movie deserves way more hype. I just stumbled upon it by total accident, but man, 😁 it’s a gem that needs to be brought back into the spotlight.

Honestly, this movie has been sitting on my all-time favorites list for ages, and that’s saying something because I’m usually not even much of a fan when it comes to French cinema.

The whole bit with Aurora and her constant suicide plots? Just absolute genius. Such a brilliant touch.🙂

By the way, did you know the production design for Delicatessen was actually handled by our most legendary set designer, Miljen Krek Kljaković? He’s the mastermind behind the look of Laundry Service and so many other films out there, whether they're big blockbusters or those little indie gems you might have missed.
