This movie is absolutely phenomenal—honestly, I’m such a huge NFL fan that I originally picked this up just for the football aspect, but man, it turns out to be so much more than just a sports flick!

I mean, look... I honestly thought an NFL movie would just be some formulaic recipe for pandering to the masses, but... man, the execution is actually great. Then again, it’s Oliver Stone... and you’ve got Al Pacino on screen... it’s a pretty solid flick.

I know plenty of people who can't stand Stone; they claim his directing is too flashy and that he just overdoes everything. I disagree. Sure, he might go overboard with the hype occasionally, but not here. Every single shot serves a purpose. It’s filmed with absolute precision and keeps you hooked through pure attention to detail. For instance: when Al Pacino is talking to that Black man at his place, there’s this brief shot of a hand digging into the turf of a football field. Brilliant.

The movie perfectly captures the raw brutality of modern sports—specifically how media exposure exposes the rotten moral foundations most of them lean on today. There’s plenty more to unpack in the film, but that core message is absolutely phenomenal.

Yeah, those shots during the game are totally "sportscaster style"—all blurred movement and chaos. It’s actually quite realistic when you consider what an athlete really sees on the field... nothing but blur and pure instinct 🙂...

...it’s got a great cast of characters, solid acting, and sharp dialogue... honestly, having watched it a second time, I think I like it even more 👍

Everything about it works and the movie itself is solid, though I can't quite wrap my head around that scene where the eye gets ripped out... I’m still struggling to figure out what the director was actually trying to convey with that...

The movie was just mindless and boring. It makes me wonder: if someone made a film about the US soccer leagues—say, centered on a team like General Electric—would Americans even bother watching? What a joke. What exactly makes this film any good, other than watching "elite athletes" munching on popcorn, drowning themselves in booze, and having unprotected sex? Then we have Pacina falling for some tramp! Truly great character development. It’s supposedly a story about courage, and here we go again, seeing for the 450,123,677th time how Americans are all about solidarity and love during hard times. Honestly, it makes me want to 🙂 just reading such pathetic garbage.

Imagine if someone actually made a movie about the American soccer leagues, maybe centering everything around a club like General Electric.

Speaking from experience—as someone who used to spend a fair amount of time at those General Electric matches—I’d say it wouldn't be much of an action flick. It would lean way more toward the horror genre. 😁

But seriously... I think the reason things fall flat is because American movies often lack that specific kind of over-the-top megalomania. You need that massive exaggeration just to make a film remotely watchable.

On the other hand, why not try something else? A gritty drama about a member of some radicalized fan group. Someone caught in this endless spiral of hopelessness, drifting toward far-right extremism, only finding some sort of twisted awakening when they get caught up in the murder of a Roma criminal in their own neighborhood...

I swear, I haven't seen a single bad movie with Pacina (at least none that I can recall). Honestly, I can't even think of any other actor from the last thirty years who deserves that kind of credit.

Now this is actually a solid concept.

A confused BBB member ends up helping his best friend—who basically dealt him a death blow—just to help him dodge the cops. But the friend's behavior starts making him question things, specifically about some Roma criminal who just happened to wander into their neighborhood. Something feels off. After a scrap with some Torcidas fans, one of the big shots in BBB (Schmidt) reaches out with an offer to work on other projects. That’s when he meets the crew BBB uses as a front for their real business, including Lena, a drug addict who's pretty much everyone's go-to girl. It all clicks when he happens to spot a secret meeting between Schmidt and a local Roma criminal.

Great movie... easily the best sports film out there because it doesn't pull any punches. It shows everything—the fake glamour, the brutality, the sheer lack of ethics... honestly, just a fantastic film. 🙏🙏
