I think you've got it wrong there.
It's been a minute since I messed around with old-school Napster, but if I remember correctly, rating files just doubles your participation points when you upload stuff. For a K++ user like him, it doesn't really change much.

Ways to skyrocket your activity score to
1000 Supreme Being

• 1. Start by dropping a massive file into your shared folder—I’d personally suggest something beefy, maybe north of 800 MB.
•
• 2. Make sure you enable file sharing and set those permissions to unlimited.
•
• 3. After that, you’ll need to actually download that huge file back from your own system.
•
• 4. To pull off this self-download, just fire up your web browser and head over to this local address: http://127.0.0.1:1214/
• Once there, you should see all your shared files listed out... just locate that giant file, click it, and save it to your hard drive. I usually just end up overwriting the original one in the shared folder to keep things tidy!
•
• 5. You might honestly need to repeat this loop a few times if you really want to see your
• Participation levels JUMP all the way to 10000! !!!!!!!!!!!!
•
• And don't sweat the wait time; the download speed is actually pretty snappy, hovering around 1000kb.

And here I am, actually worrying that my internet speed is too slow. 🙏 !

As far as I can tell, you're running on standard ISDN BRI—you know, that Basic Rate Interface setup with two B channels for voice/data streams and a D channel for signaling and control info. When you bond those two B channels together, you hit a connection speed of 128 kbit/s. Since ISDN is a digital telephony system with integrated services, you don't have to deal with useless A/D or D/A conversions, which means faster data transfer and better reliability. But look, I won't ramble on. Since there are 8 bits in a byte, your absolute theoretical maximum download rate is 16 kb/s. It is physically impossible for it to be 17. Usually, once both B channels are up, you'll see actual transfer speeds around 14.5 to 15 kb/s. You might get more, but only if the server itself is actually capable of pushing those speeds to clients. Of course, it could also be slower depending on which server you're hitting. 😁
👍
Anyway, just wanted to jump in here and add my two cents to the discussion. 😁 I strongly suggest installing and using DC++. Just forget about Napster and WinMX; honestly, even Napster combined with Diet K doesn't compare. 👍 I haven't actually tested it myself, but judging by the benchmarks over at PCMag... it's easily one of the best P2P clients out there.

Don't bother with any of them. They always wreck my system. I'll install a bunch of spyware and then just get hit with a dozen error messages.

Yesterday my mom asked me to grab an Ed Elvis track for her, and I was honestly shocked at how many hits OperaDC pulled up for it, while Napster Lite barely showed anything—and that's even with that weird extra search tool active

Guys, seriously, there’s way better stuff out there than Napster 🙂

And when it comes to local artists, nothing beats ......, I mean, I literally downloaded an entire new Foo Fighters album in one go the other day 🙂

Even RealPlayer isn't actually trash, it's just that they serve the tracks in crappy WMA format.
