The Beach Boys are honestly just a snooze fest lately.
I mean, they don’t even come close to capturing that old-school Lemonheads vibeβ€”especially not the classic era, you absolute heretics.
The Beach Boys are basically just poor man's emo if you ask me.

Pedro the Lion and Lipsi? Pedro the Lion!? That's some lo-fi emo stuff... whereas Lipsi is... something else entirely.

I think it actually worked the other way around
all those killer albums really started hitting once Skip joined up with Lips
the guy was actually playing with Mercury Rev first

Nah.
So, Jonathan used to be a roadie for The Flaming Lips, jumping in on guitar here and there before he eventually started Mercury Rev. If Mercury was heavily shaped by the influence of the Lipsβ€”especially considering the lineups before and even now, as far as I knowβ€”how could the Lips have actually come out of Mercury?...

feeling pretty wiped out... just staring at the water... everything's moving so slow...

No, honestly, with an internet connection this slow, trying to download anything would probably take forever... I think I'll just quietly ask for a favor instead... 😁

Just realized what the fight test was about 😲

I can't tell if they're actually parodying this or if they're being serious... 😁 😁

I mean, if you've only ever spun the early stuff, you probably won't see the connection at all...😁
but clearly anyone else has actually sat down with YERSELF is steam and realized how freaking brilliant it is... it’s gorgeous, it’s psychedelic, it’s heavy... damn, now I'm sitting here wishing I had the speakers to blast it right this second...

shadowgardener12 said:nah.. most of my stuff isn't even for sale, so i don't know what kind of vibe you think i'm putting out here😁...especially since The Flaming Lips are one of my absolute favorites.. right up there with Yo La Tengo..

I'm not really feeling In a Priest Driven Ambulance (that double release) that much, and those earlier tracks before hit to Death were just okay for me.. but I'm still hunting for Zaireek!πŸ˜‰ πŸ™‚

It's like you aren't even selling the stuff you claim to be selling.

In A Priest Driven is actually a total masterpiece. So, definitely a fourπŸ˜›

also dEUS - Fell OFF The floor, man. Highly recommended if you dig The Flaming L. or similar vibes.

Not sure why you're comparing dEUS to The Flaming Lips, but hey, everyone's entitled to their own vices 😁
What I'm selling, I'm selling, but I've still got until the end of May to wrap this up... hopefully I make it! πŸ˜‰

Anyway, I checked, and Jonathan is actually credited in the band on hit to Death and Priest Driven Ambulanci, but honestly, his work with Lips seems to have had more of an impact on him, especially since Lips was already an established band by then, whereas Mercury Rev wasn't really a thing yet

Edward Robinson6, that's why you really need to give Hit to Death a listen... they even played in Beverly Hills with Transmissions back in 20310 or whatever it was 😁...she dont use jelly πŸ˜‰

I haven't properly listened to Priest Driven yet... maybe it'll click now! It's louder than Hit to Death... N future Head

When you look at how The Flaming Lips evolved, you have to realize that Steven Drozd joining the lineup changed everything about their sound. He’s basically the engine behind that entire new direction they took on The Soft Bulletin; most of those lush, heavy arrangements pretty much flowed straight from his head.

Look, if you actually sit down and listen to "in a bar Under The Sea," you’ll realize pretty quickly that the vibes lean heavily toward Beck or maybe Built to Spill. It’s not even about trying to distract the hardcore The Flaming Lips fans; it's just an observation. πŸ˜›It’s honestly vital that people give this band a listen; they’ve got that same kind of effortless charm you find in The Flaming Lips.
And you're still out here peddling that same old crap... β˜•.

Ryuichi Sakamoto and David Sylvian together on World Citizen [ Short version ] is just perfection.

I caught Lipps live last year on tour with Beck, and man, they were absolutely killer. They were the opening act, and the whole performance was just incredibly trippy. There were maybe 15 or 20 fans in the crowd decked out in bunny costumes waving flashlightsβ€”it was such a trip. It felt like some kind of Dadaist lecture with a massive screen and insane lighting... After all that, Beck was honestly a bit of a letdown.

Highly recommend seeing them live. They're geniuses. Total blast.

Thanks for the reminder, man. Makes me want to go back and listen to In A Priest Driven Ambulance again. It’s a solid record. Perfect for one of those late spring afternoons when the sun is setting just right and you're just driving somewhere...

You can really tell it's from before they hit Death, back when everything was still exploding with those pop melodies...

p.s. I'm heading to Zaireek soon!

In case anyone missed the memo, Yoshimi dropped on DVD-Audio last year. You seriously need to grab itβ€”or at least give it a listen. It’s a feneomenalan feeling when the music just completely swallows you whole, and honestly, Yoshimi blows Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon out of the water on SACD.

Start with something mellow like Yoshimi. Once you're ready, you can go for the shock factor with those earlier psych-rock tracks.

Lately, I’ve been diving back into their early catalog, and honestly? Every single listen just seems to pull me in deeper. My heart still belongs to those classic eras when Roland was steering the ship (specifically Transmissions from The Satellite Heart and Clouds Taste Metallic), though I have to admit, in a Priest Driven Ambulance is getting dangerously close to becoming a top-tier favorite for me.

Then today, I stumble upon the new single from the upcoming album, and man, I am impressed. It’s refreshing. They haven't put out something this stripped-back and genuinely good in quite a while.
