So, I’ve been listening to I'm Wide Awake... and honestly, it’s good. At first, those little coughs at the start of every track were driving me absolutely insane—like, okay, we get it, you're some indie lo-fi artist just trying to look cool for the hipster crowd🙄 . But somehow, it’s actually grown on me. I can't even put my finger on why. I guess I'm just in one of those moods where this kind of music actually hits right.😳

Sean Wilson53 said:Look, this thread is pretty old and honestly, I’m a little embarrassed by it 😁 especially since their last two albums hadn't even dropped back then. Sure, they’ve got that Christmas record, unreleased tracks, and those songs Conor wrote when he was just a teenager, plus more EPs and splits with people like Neva Dinova (which is freaking amazing), and so on... you can find all that stuff just by typing Bright Eyes into Spotify, AllMusic, or Google, so there you go. 🙄

And then there's the whole "Desaparecidos" thing, used like some kind of clever flex in this weirdly elitist indie snob battle.

It doesn't actually matter if you know every single thing they've ever put out, what matters is how the music hits you when you're actually listening... 🙄

No biggie, but regarding Desaparecidos—that's the correct spelling, by the way, the other one was just a typo.🙂

Did she find any breakfast sandwiches?

Oh, she certainly did—found both the food and some good company. All in one day, though thankfully not all in the same place. 😁

I’m not really a huge fan of Neva Dinova (you’re totally right though, they can be a bit dry at times, except for that one track "I've got a feeling," which is basically an anthem of sorts 👍

I was actually thinking about that split EP, Bright Eyes + Neva dinov - One jug of wine Two vessels

That one is honestly top-tier. 👋

Man, that's a solid take. You should probably drop Walkrock and/or Tennisrock into the mix somewhere else too. (c) 😉

Just a whirlwind of Coldplay mixed with whatever they play on TV (honestly better to watch than listen to... 😍 )

It looks like Conor might be making his way over to us—or perhaps he’s already found his way here somehow... He always did have a thing for hopping over to Vienna now and then. 🙂

I know who won't 😬

ontopik

was listening to I'm Wide Awake

some easy, beautiful tracks

then some ugly country skips

total joy-killer

(since I usually can't stand songs about pure joy)

I listened to the first track on the Desaparecidos album

just couldn't take any more...

on topic

I listened to I'm Wide Awake

some easy, pretty tracks

then some ugly country-style stuff

and terrible songs about joy

(since I usually hate songs about joy)

I tried the first track on the Desaparecidos album

but I just couldn't get through it

🤣

...whatever, forget about Conor and his old or new stuff (even if I haven't heard the new one yet)....just listen to Karis !!!😬...apparently I've become some kind of Bright Eyes expert?

Since we're already talking about Conor, I should probably mention that Maria Taylor is heading to the local venue in May... it's the same record label, so I figured I'd just drop it here instead of starting a whole new thread...

I've only listened to I'm Wide Awake, IT ' Morning, unfortunately (and yes, the "only" part is what stings)

First day of my Life is such a masterclass in songwriting. It’s short, stripped back, honest, unpretentious, quiet, and just... sweet.

So if you want to be with me
With these things there’s no telling
We just have to wait and see
But I’d rather be working for a paycheck
Than waiting to win The lottery Besides maybe this time is different i mean i really think you like me

It is quite difficult to single out my absolute favorite tracks since I have become so deeply immersed in Bright Eyes lately, but if I were to curate a definitive compilation, these would undoubtedly make the cut:

1. Perfect Sonnet
2. a Mirror and Those Indifferent Clocks 3. The Movement of a hand 4. an Attempt to tip The Scales
3. The Movement of a hand
4. an Attempt to tip The Scales
5. Method Acting
6. fra a Balance beam
7. WE ara Nowhere and It's Now
8. Old Soul song ( for The New World order
9. Poison Oak 10.
10. Four Winds 11.
11. One Would Riot for Less 12.
12. lim Tree

Their music doesn't really do much for me, but man, Conor's songwriting? It’s pure magic. I'm seriously bummed I missed his set when he played in NYC.

Oh, you are the roots that sleep beneath my feet,
and hold the earth in place.
each time a curtain opens,
sunlight pours in,
a lifetime melts away.

Just one of those perfect things, I'd say.

Honestly, arguing over whether Bright Eyes or Conor is better is just as pointless as debating The Smiths back in 2002...

☕

Anyway, let's get into Jukebox the ghost!
