Stuart Little and Stuart Little 2

Both movies are great, seriously.
From what I can tell, the movie was based on a book.
For those who aren't in the loop, it’s about a talking mouse living with a family in New York City.---

The first one came out in 1999.
I didn't actually catch it until the holidays on CBS.
I'd heard of it, but I didn't pay much attention because I assumed it was just some mindless stuff for toddlers under five...

Man, was I wrong.

The animation is top-notch—especially when he gets scared or starts laughing. It's just too precious.🙂 🙂

There's plenty of adventure, too. Most scenes in the first movie take place on the water, while the sequel moves things into the air...
I'd recommend this to everyone. It's got such a positive, warm vibe.
Sure, it's a kid's movie, but honestly, adults will enjoy it too because it's genuinely funny and entertaining.

One more thing that caught my interest—
is the actual voice acting/dubbing itself.
In the original version, Michael J. Fox provided the voice for Stuart.

I watched the second one on DVD, and seeing how they dubbed the whole thing was pretty interesting. It was actually the first foreign film I saw where they did a full dub instead of just using subtitles, like you see on standard American TV.

Also, in the Italian version, the mouse's voice is adorable—it's incredible how perfectly they matched the voice to Stuart's character.

In the American version, I think the voice for the cat, Bell, is the absolute best part.

We’ve got Stuart Little 2; we skipped the first one.

I gotta vent about dubbing for a second... watching movies on ABC used to terrify me because they didn't have subtitles—imagine John Wayne speaking German, it was absolutely haunting. Thank God things don't work like that over here, or we'd be dealing with some total disaster if a neighboring country handled our TV broadcasts.

Now that I actually have kids, I'm honestly glad dubbing exists since they can't even read yet. Someone mentioned earlier that they won't watch The Lion King because they can't stand the idea of anyone else (besides Jack Irons) voicing Scar. Personally, I think that's reaching a bit too far. Why?

Because dubbing isn't automatically a step backward. If it's done right—which, in my opinion, is exactly how they handled The Lion King—it's totally fine. The kids pick up all these little jokes instantly, and you'll find yourself laughing when they drop them at the perfect moment in real life.

But, if it's rushed through just to get it done—like, if you ask me, what happened with those Conan cartoons or fairy tales like Three Little Pigs and Snow White—then I'd rather just sit there and translate everything for them myself. When it's bad, every villain has this fake, overly dramatic voice, and you've got adults trying way too hard to sound like children... it's honestly worse than hearing John Wayne speak German. It's gross.

The bottom line? Every cloud has a silver lining... though obviously, we aren't calling good dubbing "evil" here.

Bell is definitely my favorite 😁

(And no, it's not because the musician borrowed his friend's voice for the part 😁)

I recently revisited the first movie—I think I saw it in theaters back in 2000 😕
Just kidding, it was actually a blast... honestly, it’s not just some mindless flick for toddlers 🙂
The voice acting is top-tier, too; those little regional accent jokes they threw in are absolutely legendary 🙂

Dubbing can be a wonderful thing... provided you actually know how to do it properly.

I still find myself laughing uncontrollably when I think about what a college friend told me a few years back.
She was watching some Turkish satellite channel—which, let's face it, she couldn't understand a single word of 😁—and it was this classic Western scene where John Wayne kicks open the doors to a saloon and bellows: Hello! 😂

She told me she was practically doubled over in laughter for at least five minutes straight. 😁 😁 😁

It’s likely because the project was handled by a studio that has been dubbing comic books for years; they’ve already developed a seamless rhythm together, which results in much more natural and inspired casting choices. 🙂

I actually went looking for it a while back but just couldn't track it down, so I'll definitely make sure it makes the cut in the next draft.

...even though the Americans did a solid job with the dubbing, I just can't stand watching anything synchronized—it's impossible for me. So, the movie is only good if it doesn't speak American...

..nah, not really... it's just part of my job description—I watch these movies in both the original English and the dubbed versions... and honestly, none of them have hit the spot quite right yet (though I gotta admit, Stuart Little is the closest thing so far)... basically, I'll always go with the original over a dub, no matter how good it is...

Yeah..
But honestly, I thought the voiceover on American TV last year was incredible..
The guy who voiced Stuart was spot on—just perfect. He had this slight nasal quality, short but punchy delivery, and when he went into longer sentences, it sounded amazing. Hard to even put into words.
