I'm totally on board with what you guys are saying. For me, the cinematography and those sweeping landscapes were just massive—it's no wonder Kubrick walked away with an Oscar for it.
The narration—which seems to be a bit of a sticking point for most people I've talked to about this movie—actually felt seamless to me. Honestly, even if nothing else worked, that posh accent and the way it sets the stage for such a long runtime (we're talking about three hours here) really does the trick.
Anyway, just gotta say it: Kubrick’s sheer genius as a filmmaker is undeniable.
