[mandelbrot set] – Hilton, Sub Pop/pushing from cliffs, 2009
On Saturday, June 20th—more than five years since their debut and two years of grinding on this project—the noise-rock quartet from the coast is dropping their new album, Hilton, via Sub Pop. Huge thanks to the folks at pushing from cliffs and Igor Mihovilović for the massive assist here...
To celebrate the release, you’re invited to a little get-together this Saturday, June 20th, starting at 9 PM over at Molecule, Rijeka, Delta 5. It'll be a casual night of hanging out, talking shop with friends and colleagues, and catching up with the band. We'll have DJ Teenage Werewolf spinning, and you can grab the new record, some shirts, or badges... plus, if you want an autograph, now's your chance. Come hang...
Hilton is a 6-track LP clocking in at just over 40 minutes. It really serves as a snapshot of the creative journey from that messy period back in 2004/5 up until now.
It’s got a slightly more melodic edge than the last record—more prominent guitar layers—but they haven't lost that uncompromising signature sound. They're still messing around with structure, rhythm, noise, and psychedelia... basically playing right on the jagged edge of classic rock'n'roll.
The album was tracked at the local clinic studio with help from Darija Herceg and Sven Dejanović, while Scott Evans and Ben Adrian handled the mix and mastering.
The full Color cover, including lyrics and band photos, was put together by Igor Mihovilović and Ivan Svaguša. The CD packaging even includes a little postcard featuring the album art—perfect for sending to a friend, your parents, or just keeping for yourself.
Hilton and [mandelbrot set] are actually making history as the first band from this area to release on vinyl after a 15-year gap!!! And for the true vinyl junkies, we've got a treat: besides the record itself—which is a crystal-clear transparent color—you'll also get the album on CD absolutely free.

How do you actually pronounce the American word "vinyl"? 🙂
Anyway, it’s a solid announcement and good news overall 👍 I'll wait for someone else to grab one before I decide if I actually like it... just hoping there isn't any weird silence between the tracks 😬

Honestly, this might be one of my favorite albums ever—no joke. I’m seriously counting down the days until the vinyl drops.

I finally got my hands on a copy today and spun it on the turntable. I suppose that’s about as far as it goes for me, living out here in the middle of nowhere. 😁

I actually saw Cede walking into that dusty old shop the other day and flipped through the brochure, all before this thread even went live on the forum. My girlfriend is heading over soon, so we’re going out to grab a few beers.
