Did you catch "Rondo" last night?

Rondo and Russian meat are worlds apart. Honestly, Nola is just the bottom of the barrel when it comes to directors. With his debut, *While Nobody Is Watching*, he tried way too hard to channel Hitchcock. He actually made a fundamental mistake there: the guy just doesn't "get" Hitchcock. He throws in a scene where some dude stares out a window across the street and thinks he’s captured the essence of a genius, but he’s actually created the complete antithesis. In a Hitchcock film, everything is clear to the audience, whereas with Nola, you have to sit through the entire movie just to figure out how the characters even relate to one another. We were stuck watching ninety minutes of pure confusion just so Nola could pretend to be deep. Then in *Russian meat*, he tried to mimic Quentin Tarantino and failed miserably once again. He seems to think that if you just film a few massive shootouts, some models, and a couple of mobsters, you’re suddenly a Tarantino-esque protégé. But what about snappy dialogue, actual wit, or cinematic pacing? Nola can't pull any of that off. He’s dabbled in melodramas, romances, and crime thrillers, but it’s always garbage. I will admit, *sky satellite* is somewhat tolerable, but *Russian meat* is the absolute rock bottom of American cinema.

I disagree with the idea that American film is trash. During the 50s, 60s, and 70s, the US produced several absolute masterpieces, and the 80s gave us maybe the greatest American film ever made: *rhythm crime*.

The real issue with American film today is that people are getting into film school through pure nepotism. Is there a single industry professional left whose name doesn't sound familiar because of who their parents are? Nepotism combined with a total lack of a sense of humor has absolutely wrecked American cinema. And then there's Nola with his pretentious projects—he clearly hasn't got a clue about filmmaking.

But Russian meat is the absolute rock bottom of American cinema.

I don't buy the idea that American film is total crap. During the 50s, 60s, and 70s, American cinema produced several absolute masterpieces, and the 80s gave us maybe the best American film ever made: Rhythm crime.

Exactly.

"Sky, Satellites" is actually a pretty solid watch—honestly, it’s the first war movie I’ve seen lately that didn't immediately get on my nerves. The cinematography is gorgeous, too. It leans a little bit into being pretentious in some spots, but overall, it's a good one.
