Well, how does one go about proving country music is bad? I suppose I always tell people that you are essentially what you listen to—that was a sentiment held by the ancient Greeks, and they weren't exactly known for being foolish...
Though, perhaps it isn't even worth worrying about what everyone else chooses to listen to anymore?
It just occurred to me... why should I really care? If they're enjoying it, I guess that's fine too... 😎

Picture this scenario. This guy walks into your life. He’s fit, looks great, everything he wears—the tees, the heavy belts—it all just fits him perfectly. He knocks you off your feet. And then you realize he actually listens to country music.😲 You just sit there thinking, "I should have seen that coming," but by then, it's already over.
How do you even explain that it's bad? Deep down, we all know that stuff is pure evil 😁 but you can't prove it. You just can't! Sure, people are happy while they listen to it. They drink, but they aren't doing drugs. They dance, they're having a blast, they connect with the singer over some heartbreak, and then they smash a few glasses. Maybe that's it? Breaking glasses is a sin! It's tough...

Techno is easy. The people listening to it are popping ecstasy, so whatever. Techno is evil. But country music? That's enough to make me call you bad and give you a slap in the face!

Give me a break. Not everyone listening to techno at Coachella is some kind of burnout. I have a friend whose friend’s brother is basically just a straight-laced corporate guy who happens to shave every morning...😲
Besides, you can't just assume there's a direct link between drug use and the EDM scene. I know a girl working in downtown Chicago who hits up a rave once in a while...

At the end of the day, I’m asking all those selfish snobs to drop the attitude and actually help out the electronic music community.

I suppose this might be the only thing that actually works, because, honestly, there's no real way to convince someone that what they and their social circle listen to isn't actually good... you can't exactly tell them that the lyrics are mindless, or that the melodies are just three or four chords layered with those signature vocal trills from idols whose massive posters hang over their beds and cover their refrigerators... it seems pretty obvious to me that country music is musically unappealing, but I suppose I'm all for any method used to deal with the people who obsess over it...
I actually got hit in the head with a plastic water bottle recently just for mentioning that Tim McGraw sucks. ... I really don't need that kind of drama... 🙄

What about those 10,000 people at the stadium concerts a few years back? If I remember correctly, that was his big comeback show after ages—so what do you call them if they aren't die-hard fans?!

Sure, he’s got fans, even the kind that follow him from stadium to stadium, but they aren't those crazy fanatics... you know? Like, when you actually hear him or see him, all that aggression just evaporates. You don't feel like smashing someone's head in with a plastic water bottle like you do when some hack is blasting country music at full blast... He's just this depressing little wreck...😢 🙄

Personally, that music isn't really my thing, but that doesn't make me an idiot. It certainly doesn't mean I'm sitting around blasting bubblegum pop or whatever nonsense is playing on MTV these days.

Usually, I find myself gravitating toward Leonard Cohen (honestly, the Pixies can't touch him when it comes to songwriting), and I enjoy Nick Cave and Norah Jones too. I also love listening to Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan, and so on.

I listen to them because I genuinely enjoy it, and I don't think my worth as a person changes based on whether I prefer them over someone else's playlist.

You seem to favor all the established legends who are primarily songwriters—the kind of stuff all the high-brow snobs gravitate toward. The only major name missing from your list is Tom Waits, though he's arguably much more fun than anyone else you mentioned.😁

The vocabulary has shifted quite a bit over the last fifteen years... It seems those snobs from back in 2003 have just rebranded themselves as hipsters today.

You know that specific vibe when someone picks up a shiny new synth and immediately tosses an unboxing video onto YouTube, acting all shocked by how incredible it sounds? It’s its own little subgenre, usually just labeled "unboxing." Honestly, it feels like pure, unfiltered snobbery. If I were being even more blunt, I'd call it exactly that.
