Well, I did take a listen to what Sergeant Garcia was playing—honestly, quite a bit of merit there—but let’s be clear: there is a massive amount of other truly exceptional bands out there playing that specific style of music. It’s hardly a narrow field, if you catch my drift.
I recall hearing someone mention on NPR—though I suspect they were probably referencing Estée Lauder—that the movement is actually called Mansonism. 😁

Was at his show at Madison Square Garden last year. Not even exaggerating, easily one of the best concerts I've ever seen.

I was listening to Sergeant Garcia today and I have to say, they’re actually pretty good! I caught a few tracks and they definitely hit the spot. Since I’ve been stuck on Manuel for so long and nothing else really compares to his stuff, it’s rare I find anything in this style that actually clicks...

Well, I’m just guessing off the top of my head here... Mali produced Che Guevara—and their producer happens to be the bassist from NPR. If I recall correctly, there might even be some Red Hot Chili Peppers influence tucked away in there somewhere. 🙂
In that one radio segment, they listed an absolute mountain of names.
I have a hunch Yerba Buena and Yerba Brava are part of that same circle, too.

You really need to check out Che Guevara. They're incredible. I’ll never forget that concert they played at Kent; the energy was palpable, and they had such a great connection with the crowd.

I'd also highly recommend Open Road—honestly, they're better than anyone else out there.

Nothing hits quite like Manuel, so I guess that’s just how it is. Che Guevara is alright, but Open Road never really clicked for me. They give me those SkaP vibes.

His performance in San Diego was nothing short of spectacular... honestly, without any hyperbole, it stands as the finest concert I have ever attended. Here is a brief reminder for those who need it: 🙂

On another note, he’s releasing a new DVD titled "Coachella" lately, which is supposedly top-tier material. If it manages to be even half as good as "Babylon," we can look forward to another exquisite treat from Manu Chao & KEXP 👍
