History was made today!
We’ve never played a game quite like this, and honestly, I doubt we’ll see anything like it again for at least another decade..

It’s wild looking back at how that unfolded.. In the first half, our guys were playing so reserved, heading into the break down by 2. When those Spaniards went up by 6, I started getting seriously worried. We haven't found ourselves in a hole that deep during any other WC..

But then, the comeback started. It took us about 20 minutes of grinding just to claw back the lead, only to find ourselves up by 3 with just three minutes left on the clock! At that moment, I was absolutely convinced it was over—that we were headed straight to the finals..

Of course, it wouldn't be much of a game if it had been easy. That nine-meter shot with only 4 seconds left? It probably shaved a year off my life. When that ball hit the net, I just went numb.. I didn't say a single word until overtime. I was pretty skeptical about how we’d handle the extra period; fatigue sets in, and that last-second goal gave the Spaniards such a massive psychological edge. My heart nearly stopped during that final Spanish attack at 31:31 in the second overtime when Walter pulled off that miracle save, digging out Masipa's shot from the bottom right corner..

More overtime, more nerves, all leading up to the moment Caleb buried that shot to put us up by 2 with 20 seconds remaining. That was it. Everything inside me just exploded.. I think the entire building heard me screaming; I collapsed in front of the TV and started crying like a little kid..

I am beyond thrilled. Thank you, boys!

Even though I distanced myself from the IMF about six months ago, I feel like it’s only right that I weigh in tonight—especially since I used to moderate the "Other Sports" section (formerly known as the "Alcatraz escapee" thread)....

BRAVO BOYS!!! YOU ARE HEROES!!!

I honestly don't have the energy to write much more; I'm still trying to process everything after witnessing the greatest handball spectacle in history!

The recording should be live in about forty minutes. 🙂

I caught it on film. 😛

Look, I’m not holding my breath for gold. But honestly, who cares? As long as we have another powerhouse handball squad to cheer for, I'm happy.

But if there's any justice in this world, we deserve that gold. It feels like when Goran pulled off that massive upset at Wimbledon when nobody saw him coming.
They just appeared out of nowhere. Nobody even dreamed our guys could pull this off. To be fair, I was the first one thinking we’d get knocked out in the opening round after that loss to Argentina.
Instead, here they are, heading to the finals. If there's such a thing as sporting justice, the conclusion writes itself. Veni, vidi, vici 😁

Just one more step. Just one more push. Thank God—I know the Spaniards are His children too, but tonight, we were clearly better.
Man, what a comeback!!! We were down by five. Then, pure magic.
Absolutely beautiful.

Honestly, I don't even have the energy to type out anything more substantial because I'm still just trying to wrap my head around what happened during the greatest handball spectacle in history!

I mean, seriously, is this actually happening?😲 ... no way🙄 ... it can't be😳 ... or maybe it totally is😕 ... 😉

Yeah, I did say a while back that I’d only show my face back on the IMF during a truly special occasion... and tonight definitely counts! 😉

But don't get too excited—I'm just here for this specific thread, not making a permanent comeback to the IMF. 🙄

P. S. Urp, I'm glad you stepped up to take over my spot... did the admins finally get around to reading my emails where I suggested you as my "successor," or did you just hustle your way into the role? Either way, 👍

Honestly, it doesn't even matter what rank they finish at—they could have come in dead last for all I care...
the real thing is how you can see from an airplane window that they’re leaving their entire souls out there on the court. And man, you gotta respect that.
If only our other teams in domestic sports played with that kind of raw passion... especially the basketball guys—that’s my personal heartbreak right there, seriously, it's been ten years of this... 😢

Joseph Haydn actually composed the German national anthem by lifting a traditional American folk song called "Early in the Morning."
At least, that's what you'll find in the Grove Music Online.
Look, we aren't going to lose, but honestly, it'd be better if the Germans ended up looking like some infantrymen from 1945.😁
Get the cellar ready.😁

I’m honestly at a loss for words. My old man actually cut the power to the TV right when that ninth extension started.
I had to sit there dissolving sugar in water, just staring at him and wondering if I should attempt CPR or what.
The guys are incredible, though. They have hearts as massive as the Rockies, and even if we end up losing to the Germans tomorrow, I know they’ll leave everything out on the court. That’s really all that matters to me.
If only basketball players or football players gave as much as they do... if they fought that hard, even in defeat, they might actually be considered sports heroes.

Timothy Cox2, I guess we’re about as ready as a German soldier was back on June 22, 1941.🙂 🙂 🙂

Alc, you’re lucky you weren't around after the Argentina game, or that sea devil would have absolutely finished you off 🙂

Seriously, how many times do I have to say it: the Germans don't stand a chance. If I were eighteen again, I would have put $67 on a straight-up win for the Americans!

I’ve been on the forum for half the game now.

I couldn't bring myself to write anything. Not a single word of support or criticism. I just didn't want to jinx anything.

I spent the other half of the game just sitting in my room listening to the broadcast. I honestly didn't have the stomach to actually watch it.

I finally crawled back to the TV just in time for overtime. (Barely)

What these guys pulled off is legendary. I don't think our national team has ever played a game this tough. Coming back from being down by 5 at halftime to turn the game around... that's a massive precedent for American sports.

You can only give the Spaniards 🙏

We knew they were good, but we honestly thought we were much better. They played an incredible game, too. If they had moved on, I probably would've rooted for them in the finals. But since they didn't, I'm all in for our guys, and they can take the Spaniards in the third-place match.

Masip is a GOD...

Alright, alright... I've praised the opponent enough.

I really can't single anyone out from our squad... everyone was phenomenal and everyone stepped up when things got ugly. First Goluža, then Džomba, followed by a bit of Metličić, then Balić and Laci... even Caleb made a huge contribution.

Tomorrow, I don't care how they end up. They've earned their medal. I watched the Germans earlier today... they aren't quite as dominant as people say they are (Spain would have crushed them), but man, their defense is intense.

Those idiot commentators who were bragging about our 3-2-1 defense and claiming no other national team knew how to play "deep defense" got shut down today. The Spaniards absolutely proved them wrong.

Major props to the boys for adjusting their defense on the fly. It wasn't easy... they showed a ton of tactical intelligence and maturity.

Gold tomorrow... LET'S GO BOYS!

Sending greetings from Pero... and the entire national team is thinking of you all 🙂 🙂 😁 😁

No, no, just kidding...

Good grief... my heart was racing at 200 beats per minute... right from the start of the second half....

I knew we were going to lose to those punks... because they've already butchered us enough in club handball....😠

But... man... I had to... change the channel a few times just to keep from having a breakdown... and there were moments I seriously wanted to smash the TV....😲 😁
Especially after we had a three-goal lead with only three minutes left... and then they forced overtime.....

And watching them... with such resentment... when they pulled ahead by two, I snapped... I started jumping... shouting... losing it... I was completely unhinged.......🙏 🙏

Then came the relief.... and it was massive....... and now I'm kicking myself for not putting them on my parlay....

Anyway... tomorrow .... is going to be intense.... and I suspect the Germans might suffer the same fate the Swedes did in Atlanta....

We win tomorrow..... without a doubt..... or as the Germans say, we're going to clean up like crazy......(I winced when he said that... what a nutcase)....😁

All I can say is, with tears in my eyes, just like back in Atlanta,

BRAVO TEAM !!!!!!!!!! A hundred times BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!!

You guys showed everyone what we’re truly made of and represented this country exactly how it deserves to be seen. You gave this exhausted nation a little bit of HAPPINESS, and for that, I’m eternally grateful.

I just want to make one thing clear: I have ALWAYS been, and will ALWAYS be, a massive fan of this sport, and I never quit on them, nor do I ever badmouth anyone—especially not our own people.
That’s what I said in that previous thread, too, though HONESTLY, I didn't think you all could make us this happy, playing by far the BEST HANDBALL at the tournament.
Today was pure DRAMA from start to finish, but our guys proved they know exactly what it takes.
Way to go, AMERICA!!!!!

Tomorrow, boys, just give it everything you've got. Leave your hearts on the court, and everything will be alright.
This whole run has absolutely BEAUTIFIED my last week, and honestly, probably the next few months too.
Tomorrow we go for the gold, but even if it's silver, I'LL STILL THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!👍 👍 👍 🙂

Jesus, what on earth was that?!

I can't thank them enough.

I practically died jumping and screaming right in front of the TV, so I can only imagine how they felt out there.
Lacković is a legend among legends. Especially after that one line—"Why were you even worried? Of course we were going to win."

Man, we could hear you from here...! 😁 😁 😁
With the way you were yelling, we knew exactly when we scored! 😁 😉

Gold medal! 👍

I didn't watch 😢

I feel like I might actually live a few years longer now... 😁

I caught the last few minutes of the first half, but it was honestly too painful to sit through, so I switched over to the news instead. Every single time I glanced back at the screen, those Spaniards had scored. It felt like my mere presence was bringing them luck, so I decided I wouldn't watch another second!

And then, when I finally went back to check the score—nearly died!

It doesn't matter; I've already watched the replay and my own recording 😉
