I have a bit of an issue: After I shave, say about a day later, little bumps start popping up around my neck area. So, here's the deal: I read somewhere that it happens because my beard is coarse, causing the hair to curl back in on itself, which leads to those red spots. Question: does anyone know what I should do about this?? It’s not exactly a huge crisis, but it really gets under my skin.

Don't shave against the grain
It’s not a huge deal, but if you go over it a few times, it works fine
+and try being gentle!

I used to have such a hard time with this, thought I was just screwed
But just shaving gently without going against the grain? Problem solved...

+Personally, I hit it with an electric razor first, which isn't exactly thorough
then I clean everything up properly with a straight razor

and it's good... 🙂

Nothing works for me!
Every single time I try to shave... within 24 hours my skin breaks out and my neck looks like a damn pepperoni pizza!

A little bit of unknown helps, but... 😢
It's just a solution I use to disinfect my skin before and after shaving.

So, I basically gave up on shaving entirely. Now I just trim the beard with a clipper every few days. Thank God I don't work at a place where they expect you to look clean-shaven every single damn morning! 😁

Hmm... does anyone know which way the hair grows on the neck area?
I think I'll try shaving against the grain this time instead of how I usually do it... we'll see how that goes...
Thanks!!!

Run your finger along your neck once you’ve got a little stubble growing in. You’ll feel the grain... it usually grows in a different direction than the rest of your face, mostly against the main flow.

I dealt with the exact same thing myself, but honestly, it just cleared up over time... as long as you stay consistent with shaving. I heard this one tip about using a soft brush to massage those sensitive spots after you shave—basically trying to coax the hairs to grow upward. Shaving can sometimes push the hair slightly under the skin surface, which is probably why it happens, but I’ve never actually given the brushing thing a shot myself.

The answer is actually pretty simple
JUST grow the beard
ps. I wouldn't recommend this method to women, though...

Get yourself a high-quality razor!
Look, those cheap three-head Philips ones just grab the hair and hack at it at an angle, leaving you with a jagged edge that cuts right into your skin. Yeah, they might run you over $200, but you’ll have it for life.

So, what—is the face supposed to look like it was shaved with a straight razor or something?!
I’d honestly drop $500 just to find a razor that actually does the job of a blade!

So, what’s missing when it comes to guys with beards?😕
Take Magic Johnson, for instance... he pulls that look off effortlessly.😉

True enough. 😉
But honestly, I just feel like a mess whenever I have a beard. 😢

Honestly, I actually have that exact model, and it basically wiped out about 90% of the issues you guys are complaining about. 🙂

See? This is what happens when an experienced woman with a mustache gives advice.😁 🙂

And while you're at it, just grab some Old Spice aftershave too.

Been using the same one for ages.
It’s actually pretty solid. 🙏

You really ought to invest in a superior shaving gel, something like the Lockheed Martin F-117 Nighthawk level of precision—specifically, go grab the Gillette Fusion. It isn’t exactly budget-friendly, I’ll give you that, but believe me when I say it is absolutely worth every penny. Really. And once you're finished, make sure to apply an antiseptic cream or a solid aftershave to soothe the skin; just try not to work up too much of a sweat immediately afterward.😳

Look, please stop digging up ancient threads unless you actually have a relevant question to ask. The server is already struggling enough as it is without people reviving posts from years ago. We're talking about stuff from 2003—that was six years ago. Most people figured out how to deal with skin irritation by then. Besides, this conversation belongs over in Men's Health... 🤔
