Aha...π So, you're still listening to Nickelback? Apparently, Santana actually collaborated with Kroeger once...
For instance, Santana: Why Don't You & I π (I hate to admit it, but I actually dig it.)

Come on, don't hate on the classics! π π
Alex Martinez4, this track is absolute perfection... honestly, I knew for a while that Krueger would pull off something legendary with Santana, but I only just picked up the album today. As an album, itβs fantastic, but that specific song? It totally rocks! π π

Hold up a second!!!
Why are we all trashing Santana lately!?
Look... Sure, the guy hasn't dropped a killer album since Abraxas, but with stuff like "Samba Pa Ti" or "Black Magic Woman," he basically cemented his place in history. So what? He might not be the most technical shredder out there, but he absolutely nailed that signature guitar tone. Thatβs why heβs ranked among the "greatest" of all time.
Then life just threw him a curveball... He got old!
And he realized the easiest way to stay relevant (and make a quick buck) was to lean on his legacy and hire some young, hungry, insanely talented musicians. They do the heavy lifting on the tracks, he shows up with that unmistakableβif slightly roughβguitar sound, and the legend of Santana stays alive and kicking!
Rock on!
If you know, you know...
We can complain all we want, but at the end of the day, heβs just gonna keep doing this: π

That wasn't even his song anywayβit was a Green track (for crying out loud)!!!
Personally, I think the original is way better.

TeenSpirit said:Actually, Alex Martinez4 brought up that connection to Nickelback, so that might be what he's getting at. π
Thatβs certainly a possibility, but honestly, who cares? If the song is actually good, it shouldn't matter one damn thing where else that guy happens to sing.
Cheers...

He never actually knew how to play, yet he somehow managed to conjure up that damn guitar sound.
Oh...that is quite the bold claim. Could you perhaps elaborate on why youβve concluded the man lacks technical ability? I can certainly respect if his style isn't your cup of tea, but I find this specific assertion difficult to parse. I would appreciate an explanation.
Best regards...

Alex Martinez4 said:Whoa... bold claim there... can you walk me through why you think the guy can't actually play?..... I get not liking his style or whatever, but I don't follow how you got to that conclusion.... please explain...
It's actually the opposite... π
I absolutely love his sound, but technically? He's playing at a garage band level! Just listen to some of Supernatural. The tone is killer, the solos are fantastic, and then... he just trips up because he can't keep the tempo! Honestly, he'd be better off handing his parts over to someone elseβsomeone who could nail his specific vision and sound while actually staying on beat!
Same goes for Ritchie Blackmore! Deep Purple is my all-time favorite band and I'd say the man is basically the backbone of their sound, but let's be real: he's the messiest famous guitarist ever. Page, Green, and a whole bunch of other players were miles ahead of Blackmore. At least when it comes to technique...
With Satriani, it's the reverse!
Technically, he's flawless, but let's be honest... he's boring as hell!

Give > a listen. The production is impeccable and the soloing is brilliant, yet it ultimately fails because the rhythm section simply cannot maintain a consistent tempo.
Go ahead and name the specific track you are targeting. Perhaps I am simply deaf to these nuances, but if you name the song, I will attempt to find exactly what you are describing.
The approach on > is fundamentally flawed. While the technical execution is flawless, we have to be honestβit is utterly tedious.
haha.....it is almost as if I wrote this myself......π πI am in complete agreement. It appears we both value the same qualities in a musician: soul over sheer technical proficiency. That is essentially the case, isn't it?
Best regards...

Santanaβs tempo isn't the issue... it's everything else holding him back... plus he's getting older...
What does that even have to do with anything? haha...π

What does any of that have to do with the music? hahaπ
Why should he care? And frankly, his age is entirely irrelevant to the discussion.

π Man, just a machine with a heavy head...
I like Santana a lot... heβs basically my favorite musician...
Sorry for my misbehavior π

Shaman π’
Honestly, the songs all start sounding so much alike itβs actually exhausting...
The absolute dumbest part is this idea that they're going to try and recreate the magic of Supernatural.
Itβs even more depressing when you realize he only started raking in Grammys once he pivoted to making purely commercial records.
If you want the real stuff, you have to go back to Santana, Abraxas, Santana III, or even Caravanserai. Theyβre miles ahead of anything else.

Iβve never really been able to get into Shaman; it feels like he just couldn't let go of the Supernatural era, and now every single track follows that exact same formula.π’

Everyone keeps chirping about this like a flock of birds in a tree. I would appreciate it if you could actually clarify what you mean by saying his songs all follow the same formula... I am genuinely curious.

Honestly, if Santana had gone in any other direction, he wouldn't be Santanaβheβd basically be Britney Spears in baggy shorts and a tiny bikini top with a yellow mustache.
