Is it just me, or does the modern transfer market feel completely broken? I was watching some highlights the other day and thinking about how much money is being thrown around just to secure a player's signature. It feels like a massive gamble every single time a club drops a huge sum on a single name.
It makes me wonder why there isn't more emphasis on scouting the guys who are actually available for nothing. We see these incredible talents sitting on the sidelines or playing for clubs that can't afford them, just waiting for a contract to expire. In theory, it’s a no-brainer to grab a proven winner without the massive upfront hit to the budget, but for some reason, the big spenders always seem to go for the most expensive option available.
I guess the ego of the decision-makers plays a huge part, or maybe it's just the risk of a free agent not fitting the system. Still, it feels like such a missed opportunity for a lot of the top-tier teams.
