Is it just me, or is the "holdout" becoming a standard part of the preseason ritual? It used to feel like a last resort for players who really had no choice, but lately, it feels more like a calculated tactical move used every single summer.
I remember watching games back in the day where the stars were just there, grinding through training camp regardless of the numbers on their checks. Now, it feels like the tension starts months before the first whistle even blows. It’s hard to watch because you want to see the talent on the field, but you also understand the business side of it. These guys have short windows to make their money.
That said, it always leaves a bit of a sour taste when a key piece of the puzzle sits out while the rest of the squad is sweating it out in the heat. It creates this weird energy in the locker room—half the team is focused on prep, and the other half is wondering when the drama is going to settle down.
Do you think this is just smart business for the players, or is it starting to damage the culture of the teams they play for?
