I was watching some highlights earlier and it got me thinking about how much the dynamic between top-tier talent and their organizations has shifted lately. It feels like every time a player hits a certain level of prestige, the peace and quiet of the preseason or training camp gets interrupted by these massive standoffs.

Back in the day, it seemed like you just showed up, put in the work, and waited for your check. Now, it feels like if you aren't making a statement by staying away from the field, you're basically leaving money on the table. I get the logic—these guys have short careers and need to maximize every cent—but I can't help but feel like the "team first" mentality is dying a slow death.

Is it even possible for a franchise to keep their core stars happy anymore without completely breaking the salary cap? Or is this just the inevitable evolution of the business?
