I was looking at some recent contract news today and it really got me thinking about the sheer scale of these numbers. It feels like every year, the ceiling for top-tier talent just keeps getting pushed higher and higher into a different stratosphere.

Don't get me wrong, I get it. If you're the best of the best, you deserve to be paid. But there’s something about seeing those massive single-season averages that feels almost surreal. It’s hard to wrap your head around how much of a team's total budget can be swallowed up by just one or two individuals.

I remember back in the day when the "big" contracts were impressive, but they didn't feel like they fundamentally shifted the entire economic landscape of the sport. Now, it feels like the top 1% are playing a completely different game than the rest of the league. It makes me wonder about the long-term sustainability of this model. If one person takes up such a huge chunk of the pie, what does that do to the depth and parity of the competition in the long run?

Do you think this massive concentration of wealth at the very top is actually healthy for the sport, or is it eventually going to break the competitive balance?
