When the vibe of a series shifts too hard

Is it just me, or does it feel weird when a show completely ditches its original atmosphere for something totally different? I love a good genre pivot, but sometimes it feels like they're just chasing a trend instead of sticking to the soul of the source material. Does anyone else find it jarring when a dark series suddenly goes full musical?
