What do you guys think of this price?

I’d love to get some thoughts on a gaming PC I'm looking at. I'm thinking about spending up to $3667 on a rig. Since I don't really know how to build one from scratch, I'm planning to just pick up a pre-built system. Does this look like a good deal for $3533 😕? Thanks in advance!

Honestly, it’s probably just a pre-built mess—it’s hard to tell when they don't even list the SSD model, the power supply, or the case. It’s honestly ridiculous... you see these rigs being pushed for $1,500, but then you look closer and realize they just slapped together an old B85 chipset, a tiny 120GB SSD, and some extra RAM and a 2TB hard drive to make it look decent. 😵 😵

Just wait until the guys here can hash out the actual specs—this whole thing is kind of a joke, isn't it?

I guess I could probably go a fair bit lower on the price...

So, I've finally picked out all my parts, but here's the thing: I have zero clue how to actually build a PC. I don't want to go poking around and risk frying something expensive, so I'm thinking about just buying a pre-built instead. My big worry is whether I can actually get a machine worth the money without getting ripped off by some overpriced boutique builder.

I guess AMD offers free assembly and shipping...

That stuff above isn't worth even $1,000 realistically. Shows you how they build things these days...

Pre-built rigs are usually just a way for shops to clear out inventory—stuff they can't move individually or older parts sitting on the shelf. Honestly, any decent shop will put together a custom build based on exactly what you want without making a fuss. Some charge a fee for the labor, while others don't. Most of the places we recommend here include assembly for free, and some even throw in shipping, like AMD.

Since dx12 uses both the iGPU and GPU, maybe a "cheaper" move would be going with Broadwell? It stays on DDR3 RAM, but that shouldn't matter much during gaming. 🤷

Here’s a Broadwell option with more RAM, a better case, a weaker power supply, but longer warranty and a better cooler since you can overclock Broadwell if you want...

If I were putting about $3.25 (not sure what the actual budget is) into a PC to last the next few years, this is how it would look, maybe with small tweaks like the GPU model or the PSU. Of course, this setup could also be made way cheaper by cutting the RAM down to 8GB, using a "worse" case or motherboard, or ditching the extra cooler if you don't care about overclocking...etc.

I mean, if I were dropping that kind of cash, I’d probably just grab the Skylake without even thinking twice about it.
