Is "perfecting" the classics actually a bad thing?

I feel like we’re reaching a point where technology lets us peel back every single layer of old recordings, but sometimes the "imperfections" are what made the music feel human. Does cleaning up everything to modern standards actually strip away the soul of the original art?
