I’ve been feeling a bit of "fan fatigue" lately with how much certain players are being pushed by the media. Don't get me wrong, seeing incredible talent on the court is exactly why I started watching, but sometimes it feels like the entire broadcast—and even the social media discourse—is just a giant marketing machine for one specific person.
It gets to the point where you start to wonder if you're actually watching a competitive game or just a highly produced episode of a reality show. I remember watching a matchup a few years back where the talent was evenly matched, but the commentary was so focused on one "superstar" that I felt like I was missing the nuances of the rest of the roster. It kind of cheapens the grind that the other players are putting in.
When the spotlight is that blinding, do you think it actually helps grow the sport in the long run, or does it just alienate the die-hard fans who want to see a real team battle?
